I saw some rare breed Bourbons for 42$ and it's easy to find the JD Single barrels or Makers Cask strength for 50$. I think both of those are pretty solid options. Not a regular occurrence but I've lucked out at picking up a couple bottles of Blanton's at 62$.

I tried the Stellum bourbon at a tasting with a couple Barrell bourbon batches and I did prefer Stellum. They sometimes try too hard with the barrel blends and at that $$, you expect a lot better.

I believe you to be incorrect

jay west of r/bourbon is doing picks of Bulleit this year and he said they are 9 years old which would be impossible given that they didn’t start distilling until 2016. May not be MGP but it’s not their distillate.

Ok well it’s not mgp, I know that for sure. These mashbill aren’t made by mgp. They are closer to four roses.

Here is a lot of good info: http://bourbonr.com/blog/untold-history-of-the-bulleit-brand/

the 95/5 rye is mgp. The bourbon is unknown at the moment: four roses, brown Forman, other? Not mgp

what I had was definitely high rye. Whether you’re talking 35% (four roses) or 36% (mgp), I’m open to persuasion.

I just feel fairly certain it’s not Bulleit, I don’t see jay risking his rep on the biggest bourbon board in the world on a single Bulleit pick.

Yeah it’s not bulleit distilled you’re right. The bourbon is not mgp tho. Look at the article I just posted

the bourbonr article? I don’t see where it addresses where they may source in 2020 (though I admit I’ve had a few)

NYGator Samples received. They got a bit warm in the box, it’s 90+ today but hopefully no effects on the tasting.

Not sure. I can ask. Just assumed that since the label on the flasks didn’t include it that they wouldn’t.

I’m sure they know the temperature of the market right now and that customers will most likely pick whichever is the oldest barrel.

It would be more fun to pick the barrel without knowing :twocents:

That said I’m guessing they’ll tell you if you ask.

It’s worth knowing ahead of time I’d assume they’re all likely of similar age. I’ve had great four roses picks that are relatively young and bad ones that are 11+

No, I’m saying it’s not a deciding factor for me, without tasting.

If there are two that are a tossup though it’s a factor worth considering.

That's fair. I just think it's going to bias your opinion prior to making an assessment on tasting alone.

Picked up a new riff single barrel at their distillery a few months back comparing it to my original single barrel from early 2020 it’s crazy the flavor difference so much less oak, more floral, and way less aggressive at the exact same proof

My original pick was from a local store, the one from the distillery was picked by one of their master distillers and it shows, it tastes like 15 proof lower

I really liked the Sam Houston 14y last year, and I've heard they're the same distillate but different barrels. So, idk. Probably not for $140 though. Think it's $110 or $120 msrp?
