New Bourbon Thread: Bourbon Trail

Should I have bought this?

 

I know nothing about Filibuster but I do love private select 4R.

 

Had to buy both and I wasn’t interested in the Filibuster. They wanted $130 for both so I passed.

 

Packaging a bottle nobody wants with a desirable store pick is some fuck shit.

 

So, basically, "here's secondary priced 4R Private Select, and have a free Filiwhatever!"

 

And it seems to be the norm at many stores nowadays unfortunately

 

I get the move. Shops take a risk doing a barrel pick with these smaller distilleries or NDPs and know that they have guaranteed sales with their desired picks.

I've said it before but I don't see a good solution for stores in this bourbon frenzy in dealing with allocations and high desired inventory.

 

Not bad for Chattanooga. Said I wasn't going to get another Barrell Craft Spirits but here I am with a SP

I like trying to new and expensive ones, but when in doubt and not wanting to spend a ton of money…. It’s hard to beat Eagle Rare for the price.

I didn’t post pics of the laser etchings fast enough for them or post my individual valuations that got to my asking price.

 

That’s not why bottles get taken down.

 

I see. You can ask for anything and a post won’t get taken down. But there are rules to posting pappy bottles and if you don’t follow them they will pull the post. Fakes are an issue.

Not entirely but people were upset he posted bottles selling for a friend. One guy was so butthurt he questioned why he was even in the group

 

It is a matter of huge indifference to me.

 

some groups don't allow you to sell bottles that aren't in your possession. idk, thems the rules.

Recently moved to a new condo. Didn’t trust movers with my collection. This sucked to move.

Alright, had a small pour, but I’m no expert.

nose: oak, light caramel, butterscotch
Palate: oak, cherry tobacco, and maybe apricot .... something here I’m not really used to, but interesting.
Finish: oak, and a slight tartness and spice.

oak all the way through for sure, but not overboard. I like oak so it’s fine to me, but others may find it too prominent. It has a little burn on the finish that seems higher than the actual proof, but smooth at first sip.

 

Should have just had me over to drink it all.

 

Heading to Vegas Thursday, arriving ~10 hours before everyone else (on purpose, I have 2 kids, give me some damn alone time. Also... Vegas). Was considering Ubering off the strip to do a little bourbon hunting. If I find something semi-rare, just bring it back for the group. Super rare, maybe mail it back. Don't need bourbon recs, just curious if anyone has any liquor store recs out there. TIA.
