Guy I know brought a 3/4 full bottle of MWND to a bachelor party and sat it on the bar with about a dozen other bottles the group had brought. I said “you really putting that out for anybody?” He said “yeah, I don’t really even like it.” Quickly offered him an ‘08 Foursquare for trade since he likes rum and he took it. Take that all day despite already being cracked.
I would have no issues either putting it out. It used to be so easy to get and just sat on shelves. I like it but it’s not like it was during the early acts.
I love rye but I’ve never liked any other port finished things except for the MWND. Not a fan of Angel’s Envy, etc.
I don't mind the basil hayden line (except for that 2x2 bourbon water) but there is better tasting bourbon at a higher proof for less money, so I don't usually drink it. Haven't had the toasted yet though.
Who’s in Columbus, Degausser ? Had no idea WT released this, any chance you got one? edit - NOT a Wild Turkey, turkey
Saw a NCF Rare Breed for sale on secondary and made me wonder about the difference. Found this side by side tasting note on regular Rare Breed v Non Chill Filtered. This guy liked the regular Rare Breed better than NCF Overall Impression: Well, there are some obvious differences here, although despite my notes these are 90% the same bourbon in terms of profile. The most notable differences are the thick and heavy dark barrel char note in the nose and taste of the NCF version, which honestly seems to cover up some of the delicate and nuanced notes that I found in the regular Rare Breed. Also of note, the regular Rare Breed has an obvious skunky/oily note on the nose, which was only slightly detectable in the NCF version. Of course these bourbons may just be exhibiting batch variation, but I do think there is something to the chill filtration at work here. I found myself gravitating towards the delicate sweet/fruit/floral notes of the regular Rare Breed, but also appreciated the dark chocolate and coffee present in the NCF version. It all comes down to a matter of preference in the end, and I gave the edge to the Regular `ol Rare Breed. I didn’t notice any difference in terms of mouthfeel, and surprisingly they both gave an identical hug/burning sensation on the finish.
They have those turkey decanters here, I can probably get some if yall want them. I think its 80 proof.
It’s apparently MGP distillate blended and proofed down by a company in South Carolina. I just assumed it was WT. Also, interesting read on Blue Run. I’d been curious about what the story was with the brand and this confirmed my suspicions. Interesting that Castle & Key is making good enough product that others want to rebrand and market it themselves.
Pretty sure they’ve sourced from other distillers, but they have contract distilling from C&K for future releases. The interesting takeaways for me were: C&K stuff is good enough that someone would contract with them Marketing team with previous employees from some big hitters like Nike and Facebook
Sorry just saw the post, but I missed it as well. That said, they are going to be getting a lot of store picks over the next month or two, like 10+. If y'all see anything let me know and I'm happy to C+S
Any opinions on the Thomas S. Moore Port finish? I've tried the Chardonnay cask but that was forgettable.
BrickTamland I'm in Louisville and there is FAE-02 2021 aka chocolate fudge blaster for MSRP. Do you want me to grab you any?
Thanks, but no. Secondary isn't too bad on it if I can't find a few of them. Still cheaper and less of a hassle than you shipping.
