I don’t speak for everyone, but Dovetail for me. Seagrass rye when the weather warms up. Armida when I’m trying to convince myself it’s good.
It's stocked at $90 most of the time at my abc. In my head, I'm just going to keep buying every edition from here on out but can't pull the trigger now after last 3-4
got a 4Roses OESF pick tonight. I haven’t had any single barrel that wasn’t the standard so I’m pumped for this one.
Went into a local store today after seeing them post an allocation release on Instagram. Got there in time to grab the last EHTSiB. Didn’t have prices on any of the stuff released today. Walked it to the counter and they rang it up for $250. What a fucking joke. They were charging $100 for Weller SR and $90 for HM 10. Don’t think I’ll ever be back in that store.
In Vancouver, Weller SR sits on the shelf for $30 Canadian. Just shows its not that good of a bourbon and just gets priced up here because of the Weller name. But yes I will buy some bottles there and trade them for something better
I feel like there is not great consistency on barrell products. BrickTamland and I have different proofs of Armida and I love mine, he hates his. I hate Dickell which my bottle is light on. I do enjoy dovetail. I had a bottle of the rye with the polish rye in it and left it in my car, sun popped the cork out and it drained all over my backseat.
Seems that I always hear about dovetail being a favorite. Had the same thing happen to a friend. I think it might’ve been a bottle of Bookers, left it in the car and 3/4 of it seeped into the floor mat
I'm a Barrell evangelist for years now, but they have so many products and batches out now it's really tough to say. I agree that Dovetail is fantastic but even that one has changed batch to batch. I'm currently sipping their new batch of New Year and it's good but not going to win any awards. Armida, Seagrass and some of the other finished releases are a bit more polarizing, so I'd stick to either Dovetail or whichever batch of the standard cask strength bourbon you see.
John McGuirk just get yourself a bottle of Stellum rye or bourbon. Barrel craft spirits is one of the best blending houses in the country, and Stellum is $30 less than their premium offerings. Great products, I especially love the rye.
It’s very good. Very sweet, I taste apple Jax cereal. But it’s far from complex and definitely not much older than their stated 4y. Absolutely not worth $120; I was gifted this bottle last year.
Love the stellum store pick I got. The new store has the regular stellum bourbon and rye, so I plan on getting both on the next trip to see how they compare.
We're playing poker online. PP for some reason wanted to apologize for a suckout in this thread(I suck out many times). We're both just drunk it seems. I am drinking bourbon though but maker's is my choice of the night and not good enough for this lofty thread.
Any bourbon is good enough for this thread. Just make sure you don’t ask someone to give you a different gift and you’ll be fine.
Had some Elmer at dinner then smoke wagon rare and limited the 1st ten batch 4 at a cigar bar. Etl is nice the smoke wagon though…..beautiful. Hopefully pperc doesnt see this. He is jelly about the smoke wagon.
Whiskers. I knew their stuff in the glass case was absurdly priced. Like 1800 for a smoke wagon R&L. But, I’ve never been gouged on bottles on the floor until now. Quickly put that bottle back
What did I do? I just read occasionally because I might buy bourbon as gifts. Got my stepdad and BIL bottles of Weller Antique for Christmas and RockHardJawn39 tagged me here. I was able to get TheFreak55 a bottle and going to get Enis one when I can
You’re always welcome here. Just try to keep bringing your OSU friends with you to a minimum because stuff like this happens.
Too much Kentucky owl confiscated. DotA until 3am with Name P. Redacted and Handcuffed It was a late morning.
looking to get into it a bit this winter just kinda of looking for suggestions on some decent mid level Japanese whiskey for sipping on or using for cocktails I know a decent amount about bourbon but want to get into something new
Price point? You really can’t go wrong with any of the Suntory brand whiskies in whatever price range you are interested. hibiki Yamasaki Hakushu of course everyone also likes Nikki from the barrel or a few of the other Nikka’s, like Coffee. if you like peated scotch I would also recommend trying some of the peated Japanese like Nikka Yoichi
Wow - the self control on you. That Buffalo trace and old tub would be “meh, might as well finish it off” in my glass if those were my bottles.
