I did a tour of Van Brunt and Widow Jane in Red Hook Brooklyn today. It was a lot of fun. Van Brunt was far and away the more fun and authentic place to go. Widow Jane is just the creation of a big conglomerate. their bourbons are good and their buildings are beautiful, but there is something that is just made for TV about it.
Wandering around Chicago today I saw things I’ve never seen before Amarth of the Gods,18 Year Marriage, Tornado etc the prices were absurd I think 18 year was at $5900
going to be in brooklyn in a few weeks, planning on going to Kings County, have you been there? or anyone else?
We ate an amazing wood fired pizza place (Hoek Pizza) down by widow Jane. You can walk to the water and see the Statue of Liberty and there is a big brewery (Strongs) that is awesome right on the water too. There is also a winery there but they had an event. Kings County is in Dumbo and I am not as familiar, but it is nice there.
Picked up these two wheated bourbons yesterday from the tour. The one on the right is very solid as a 6 year 100 proof. I didn’t get anything at widow Jane. The tour kind of sucked and everything they have you can get anywhere anyway. I highly recommend this as a fun day trip if you are in the NYC area. We literally stumbled upon Strong's Brewery and the place was a scene right on the water. Here are a few more pics of the area if anyone wants to visit.
We’re doing ten days in Iceland next month. How does Duty Free work? Buy in Atlanta on my way there? Buy in Iceland when I land? Buy in Iceland when I’m flying back?
Believe you’re legally required to put a chunk of glacier ice in it. Also, and I’m not kidding, there’s an Icelandic whiskey that uses sheep shit to smoke their barrels.
You can’t buy in Atlanta on the way back, only on flight out. You should be able to buy either way in Iceland.
That’s what I thought re: Atlanta and returning from Iceland. I just don’t get why I could buy duty-free when I land in Iceland, given that I’m clearly going to be consuming it during my stay.
It’s supposed to be pretty solid. It’s $70 for a liter of 13 year old Turkey and it’s basically only sold duty free
