ah ok, reading some reviews i believe you are correct. which is why an amusement park like this must be such a success. current world is too perfect, sim world introduces a whole different set of feels ...
I disagree, man in black wouldn't need a scalp if he were Hopkins. He would already know all that shit.
he understands what he can intepret as an external programmer but as a player in the game? interacting with the AI vs setting the protocol? might be some next level shit he can discover ... first theory is still competitor looking to steal info ...
So i dont understand one thing...well probably more than one thing, but this is the biggest thing im confused on. Ed Harris' character gets shot multiple times by the younger host guy that loves the girl on the farm. So a host shot a person? I swear I saw bullet holes in Ed Harris. What's up with that?
i think the question is why Harris is seemingly more aware than other guests. the couple thats on a ride with the sheriff gets freaked out when he starts malfunctioning. the couple thats cowering in the corner when the other decommissioned bot is on a killing spree. how cone harris knows the hosts cant hurt him but other guests are so concerned?
This was my point too. Don't really get how that scene reconciles with the hosts now able to 'hurt flies'
Well Harris said he had been coming there for years or something like that. Kept asking the bots if they remembered him and such. So I think that makes sense, some of these people are just on their first time in the park and it's so real it's hard to get over the fact that they couldn't hurt you. I think it's something like this: So the hosts are programmed so that they can't hurt you or "even a fly." Well now there is a glitch and they're able to realize they have more power, or at least have access to more power, than what they have been programmed with. While they may not be able to hurt guests yet, the guests are in their world. It'd only be a matter of time. They could still hold them hostage without ever actually hurting them.
after the first episode of GoT i would have been confused too if I didn't read the book. I think there are enough questions, that are good questions, to keep my intrigued. Psychological/Sociological element im in love with too.
There are three protagonists. Humans (guests), robots (hosts) staff (running the park). It appears that the last update went horribly wrong and some of the robots now have advanced AI to the point they can understand they are slaves to the staff.
He said he's been coming there for 30 years and those others are likely on their first trip. Even if you told yourself you were in a park or game of some kind, it would still be hard to ignore all your instincts when people are squeezing off pistols everywhere.
They made a point in the introduction to show that even the weapons (six shooter) are manufactured with the advanced technology. I think host can shoot or stab a newcomer but the technology doesn't effect organic skin. Think it's something they'll explain later or not at all. I think the movie explains it but I can't remember.
I don't think so, it's just all we see this episode. Ed Harris seems to be looking for something else besides an adventure
How has Ed Harris managed to hide from the programmers you wonder? I was thinking he may be a programmer but he says he paid all this money.
In the movie the guns wont shoot when aimed at warm blooded animals. So its different from this show.
Im reading so much into this show, that I'm even more hooked. Just every detail about Delores, the characters, the hosts in general..going through their day-to-day witnessing the same shit. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/westworld-evan-rachel-wood-premiere-934228 Spoiler But at the very least, Dolores has already destroyed one life form: a fly. While it's nothing more than a tiny little life, it's still a life, and the hosts are programmed to never harm living creatures. What does this mean for the character and for Westworld at large, then, that Dolores has already killed by the end of the series premiere? "It's the first sign that she's completely off book," Wood teases. "She's overriding her programming, which means it's anybody's game — especially hers."
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/hbos-westworld-100-million-price-934347 - (For context: HBO scrapped the entire original Game of Thrones pilot, which had a price tag of $20 million.)
No. in the scene where the staff is evaluating the malfunctioning sheriff, the boss chick says there are 1400 guests in the park.
what about the "this is awesome" frat boys? shirtless black dude, they reference Teddt as their guife to get to the next level ...
Man in Black appears to be clearly a guest. Would think his behavior would get him expelled/black listed or something by now but for some reason the park runners can't detect or track him. Any speculation beyond that is pretty much moot because we simply weren't given enough clues yet.
I just watched the movie. It is pretty bad. I think the point of the movie will be similar, but I doubt it will spoil anything we haven't figured out.
Reall good write-up/follow-up questions: http://io9.gizmodo.com/15-questions...tm_medium=recirculation&utm_campaign=mondayPM
Theory after reading that: Spoiler Gunslinger/Man in Black is a robot that escaped/got out during the critical failure 30 years ago, and has been coming back every/maybe never left to learn about it/meet his maker
On the Dolores/fly thing During the interrogation: "Would you ever hurt a living thing? No. Of course not" She finishes with: "I know things will work out the way they're meant to." And then kills the fly that has been shown not to affect the hosts the entire time.
Also Jeffrey Wright whispered something to the dad who lost his shit when they sent him to cryo. No idea if that matters or not.
I'm gonna have to watch again. Reading too much stuff online. Already wrapped up in it after one episode.
People clearly don't love this show enough to have the shootout scene on YouTube. That's a solid 5 minutes of great television. If it were GoT it would be up last night
The effect of guns on guests vs. hosts is explained by Nolan in rule 1 of this article... https://editorial.rottentomatoes.co...estworld-hbos-killer-robot-theme-park-series/
the town is meant to be a bit more structured, but like the couple who went into the mountains with the sheriff, things get crazier the further out one gets - like the father of Dolores used to be a cannibal cult leader, the couple w/ the sheriff went off to hunt Xerxes few "who is that?" things I discovered (some might be known already) - the white frat bro is this guy who has been in a ton of stuff - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1531180/?ref_=tt_cl_t7 - the main robber was Xerses and was in Love Actually - the main security guard is the oldest Hemsworth brother - the guy who created the park was in Silence of the Lambs.
