I typically like Sepinwall's reviews but he has been insufferable with Westworld. Seriously, dude, Dollhouse? He's literally drifted in Joss Whedon fanboy territory and that's a place where only the dust returns.
Dollhouse was a good show and does indeed deal with many similar themes as this one. Not sure what's wrong with comparing them.
One thing I saw not mentioned here (not my theory) was someone basically asking a question, was is it possible Elsie comes back, or reappears rather, as a bot?
Another thing, is this photo from one of the show previews supposed to be important? I'll remove the spoiler if it isn't necessary. Just don't remember where it's from. Or who they are. Spoiler
an uprising? that's luda-cris. very little doubt that the show will end with MiW swinging a baseball bat to knock milk all over the hosts, which kills them.
looks like Maeve and her daughter. It may have been the same interview, but I remember someone saying this first season was a build up to the "real" show- season 2 etc. Best damn build up ever.
Yes it's possible and it's a nightmare scenario that I'd rather people not talk about. Y'all don't know her like I know her she's just not like other girls she would never BE a robot
Spoiler If I had to take a stab after a phone zoom in I would say Maeve and her daughter from the prior narrative To add to the post above the daughter would be the corpse
just to be safe I guess Spoiler didn't someone post a theory about the maze being a way for the hosts to become sentient. could be important with Maeve being the one laying in the middle
now that i'm done gloating and had time to gather myself goddamn what a fucking episode i was totally checked out of all of the business aspects of the park until theresa got got ford IS a monster and goddamnit hopkins portrays it so fucking perfectly. his face will probably be the last thing i see before i fall asleep tonight.
Hopkins little tongue to cheek and step forward was such amazing subtle acting and made me go "Oh shit!" Hannibal, bitches!
Another good thing about the show While Ford is some sort of bad guy, I mean he killed a person, everything is still up in the air for the end game. You've got Ford, Arnold, MIB, the hosts, and Delos. Perfect fucking madness
Just thinking about this video and the use of the word BOTH. What if Abernathy was the father with Dolores the first time when she started to go off her loop and not the second like we are thinking? The reason this comes to mind is I would think Abernathy would not be confused in that state as to who Bernard is if it were just a visual thing. I don't think that works because I didn't think the park was running while Arnold was there but I could be wrong. I really need to go back and watch literally through a new lens of unreliable narrators.
Could be wrong, havent gone through them all, but seems like "Bernard" scenes feature him wearing a white shirt and tie while "arnold" scenes do not.
Hosts can't see things that would hurt them, right? So why could Maeve see the welcome video that features her and the little girl?
My guess is she's being controlled by ford or some shit, thus the person with more power than felix/sylvester who had made changes to her.
His laughter at the thought of the board trying something to get rid of him and the tongue to cheek thing you mentioned were incredible. Also when Theresa asked "is this what happened to Arnold? Did you have Bernard take him out into the woods?" "No, he wasn't here in those days. Were you Bernard?" That rhetorical "Were you Bernard?" was just fantastic.
I hope this becomes one of Hopkins' best performances over his career since Mads came along and did Hannibal better.
When Logan and William were stealing the glycerin, Logan opens up a case and pulls a bottle out. It looks small and empty, but when they show Lawrence reach for one the bottles are bigger and you can hear the glycerin sloshing around inside. Just another little thing the hosts are programmed to see. How many other little things like that are being changed?
just watched the scenes. look like the same bottles to me but the one logan picks up is definitely empty.
Also, the MiB kept on telling Lawrence and Teddy he's here to set them free. I'm starting to think the maze is definitely a way for them to gain awareness. I'm cooking up a theory, but it's still a little weak right now.
It only works if there are two timelines and William=MiB. William and Dolores make it to the church they keep previewing. I don't know what happens there, but it looks like a lot of people die. Either William falls for Dolores, thinking becoming somewhat self-aware, or something happens that leaves him bitter. After all this time his ultimate goal is to set the hosts free, waking Dolores up... Weak, but I've got time to think. What's yours?
It only works if there are multiple timelines and Logan=MIB. William/Dolores/Logan continue towards the town with the church. Turns out that town is Escalante. Logan goes off, starts killing everything and William joins in. Something causes William to die (idk, can't figure out what fits best in this, something to do with this maze perhaps. I can't be sure until i know what the maze is). Ford and co realize dolores needs to be kept on a leash, so Teddy is introduced. Due to to constant monitoring of the William/Dolores storyline Teddy is given William's personality and mannerisms (unless the maze allows people to upload their consciousness to a robot, but that's a different discussion entirely). Logan gets jealous of William solving the maze or whatever and dedicates his life to finding it himself, thus him saving the park and becoming MIB. Time goes on, nothing happens. Some years later Ford gets bored or something (who knows what his motives to do anything ever are truly) creates the Wyatt/Teddy/Escalante storyline to mirror what happened in Escalante years prior. Would fall in line with Delos thinking it's a retrospective but Ford insisting it isn't and would explain a lot about Teddy.
any host that has heard arnolds voice has had their primary programming changed. They essentially ARE free already, they just aren't aware of it - Maeve and Dolores are becoming more and more aware of it every episode. But from the Elsie-Bernardobot talk before she got nabbed (which was probably just a misunderstanding and she'll be returned unharmed with an apology) we know that hosts who have heard Arnold can lie, kill guests, etc.
i don't recall being told that hosts who have heard arnold can lie and kill guests. seems like only dolores is doing the former while no one is doing the latter.
Lawrence, I expect better out of you friend. We can discuss how to make this theory strong like bull over snapchat if you like but it needs much much more substance and a bit of tinfoil. Your theory is basically that William and Dolores end up at the church and people die. The bolded part has already happened....
Dog I said it was weak. I'm mapping it all out in my head as we speak. William might fall more for the park than Dolores though. The answer I'm looking for is MiB's motivation for freeing the hosts. Love of Dolores? Boredom? Wanting to watch the world burn?
Trust me. If it's a scene with Elsie in it, I know it by heart. she says something like "whoever it is, is changing their primary programming. they can lie to guests, or even kill them" - the very next scene is Ford talking to Kid-Ford where he lies about the dog dying and then says Arnold told him to kill it. This is where I don't think Ford is "in on it" with the whole thing going on with hosts becoming self-aware. he looked pretty damn surprised in that talk with baby-ford that the kid lied to him Like you said - Dolores lies to people Maeve seems to not be bluffing about killing the comb-over with the scalpel. And she was very prepared to stab the shit out of the clean up crew that came to get clementine in the saloon.
He's looking for truth. "something real". etc. no idea what that actually means but the MiB seems to give 0 fucks about dolores or being bored.
The truth could be about Dolores. In the old timeline he falls in love and thinks she's doing the same. Turns out, Logan was right and she was only introduced because she was the only thing William smiled at.
No offense, but I will probably stop watching if this all turns out to be about him looking for love. Love is just the least interesting plot device ever.
ok you lost me with that last sentence there larry. that's some serious tinfoil if you're saying that this was all purposefully done by a narrative writer in the park: - dolores goes against her programming and shoots a gun, while hearing arnolds voice and seeing the MiB - she runs from her family being murked and stumbles into Williams camp - William happens to be in the exact place this tinfoil narrative took Dolores, because he is on an actual narrative with someone else on a bounty hunt
