But then again maybe that is what the whole Sakura thing was supposed to be about...a parallel to Maeve. Honestly I don't think it 100% works but here is a girl, Sakura, that is not the biological daughter of the Geisha madam but yet she is willing to give her life to save Sakura. So I guess this is to parallel that Maeve wants to save her daughter even though she knows that she is not her real daughter. I don't think it is an accurate comparison b/c Maeve being "woke" and the Geisha not being aware of her programming makes the two situations completely different but I think that is what they were maybe going for? I guess the hosts are just in two different camps rn. There is the Dolores camp that is mad af, that rejects everything that is "pre-awakening", wants to burn it all down and start anew. And then there is the Maeve/Teddy camp that are seemingly at least partially self-aware and that realize that a lot of what they "are" is programmed but they don't want to burn it all down. They are more content with staying in their world and finding happiness, even if it maybe isn't 100% "real". But what is "real"? To us humans, it is ridiculous to try to think that a robot can have a daughter, or truly be able to love etc, but to Maeve,Teddy, and other androids it's all they know. And maybe that's as "real" as things can get for them, and they've accepted that. Who knows. DEEP SHIT MAN
i took maeve's ability to control hosts without vocalizing as something borne out of strong emotion, both the impaling of the guy trying to strangle her and the shogun army attacking after akane kills the emperor. she seems to be using the host's mesh network bernard mentioned in the first ep of ssn 2 when he was talking with charlotte.
Team Dolores is just running a new ford storyline to wreck William. Beginning to wonder if old William is a bot. Is maeve connected to Arnold? Arnold's brain uploaded to her? Both obsessed with losing a child, her becoming what Dolores couldn't etc
I'm 2 eps behind on the show but just read something that reminded me of Westworld. I'm reading this book about the history of the iPhone and in the chapter about Siri they were talking about how it was created. Apparently a lot of stuff she says is "dialogue" that a team has written after having long discussions about her character, etc. Reminded me of Lee etc on Westworld coming up with the narratives and the lines for the hosts
Threads are converging. Seems like we have an idea where most of the stories have been happening time wise now. Still interested to see how William and Maeve will intersect with the rest.
yeah that was a bit of a setup ep lots of predictability knew there would be a replacement maeve, knew teddy would be cold motherfucker and just sensed that ford was gonna be in the fold somewhere william must be totally fucked in the head to believe his daughter is a host and then ditch her ass
Can someone that speaks H4X0r language explain what the fuck Elsie and Bernard were talking about? Like everything in both computer conversations and was Bernard “going in” to see who was protecting the computer system from hackers and it ended up being a Ford program? Felt a little bit of pride with Bernard telling my girl if anyone could right the ship it’d be her. Some of us have an eye for talent
Not speaking to their conversations specifically but the scene in the control room that precedes us reconnecting with Bernard is revelatory imo. The delos guys are talking about how everything *seems* normal in the system - then Bernard starts walking through that operating-as-normal version of a scene we've seen many times before. I think what we are seeing is Bernard exploring the facade that Ford has constructed, which is of course entirely "virtual" and not reflective of what is actually happening in the "real world" where the hosts are in revolt and breaking barriers. This is perhaps a clever reminder that while the hosts are a physical embodiment of code, they are still ultimately code, and that code can be "run" regardless of whether there is actually an automaton of some sort walking across dirt in plain view of a guest or otherwise. I don't know that the particulars of the Bernard/Elsie conversation are terribly important beyond that.
I was already a believer that Ford cloned his own mind and inserted it in the system but this makes me believe even further that Delores is still under the control of Ford and is not truly free.
Watched the latest last night. Love this show. I knew Ford was still heavily involved but the reveal of him on the piano in the system was great. To what extent with his mind/consciousness/host body to be determined. Everything about the cradle is interesting. It's a giant part of the world and excited to see where it goes moving forward. Only thing I'm not sure timing wise was Dolores testing "Bernard" at the beginning. The who when and why will be known eventually, but it seems it's Teddy's mind in there, and at some point before "Bernard" wakes up on the beach. Logically, something has to go down to remove the new military guy, leading to the current? military guy shown at the beginning of the season. The mind fuckery is at that balance to where it keeps you thinking and on edge, but not too convoluted to make watching difficult.
Him and Elsie kept talking about people trying to hack in the cradle (I think) and something in the system playing elite 3-4 defense. Which is what I think prompted them sending Bernard in to find the anti-hack entity. Which is what I assume Ford being there at the end was showing. Like maybe he put in a program to keep delos from hacking in and stealing info and his being there was just showing us he’d put that failsafe in place before dying
Also I know Hopkins only signed on for season 1, were these shots he filmed before or was that all CGI?
Episode felt like a finale. Also admittedly not real sure about what Bernard was doing plugging into that brain ball machine or what all ford talked with him about but it seemed like Bernard coming into the machine was a test. Delos idea never worked but ford realized he could be put into the system and live forever. He’s now operating remotely through Bernard like a virtual droid? Maeve’s daughter getting nabbed / her getting shot was stupid. Stay in the goddamn house dumbass kid. Teddy 2.0 is the fucking man
I felt like I was watching a great episode but I couldn't tell. There's so many times where I am just trying to understand what's happening that I can't just watch and enjoy.
But I do believe that Delores is acting as Ford's physical defense of his legacy. Ford's mind/bernard is acting as the software defense.
This episode annoyed me: 1. Why the fuck is that Delos Merc being seduced by a host that he literally just saw killing everyone around him? 2. If the host is sent down there to destroy the cradle why does she have no weapons or explosives? What was she going to do if the merc doesn't show up? 3. Why is Charlotte nailing down Abernathy and doing literally nothing to get the brain core out when all you have to do is either chop his head off or use the tools they have access to?
#2 -She's going to enter the wrong password 3 times and lock everyone out. #3 - probably was trying to get the code to input it somewhere and couldn't just yank the bulb out to do that. Looking forward to next week and if Bernard can stop Ford from being uploaded to the cloud
So Ford was backed up to The Cradle but now that’s been blown up. So somehow Bernard now has two different “minds”, his and Fords, uploaded to his control unit?
seems to be the case. From what I could understand, Ford's (or Jim Delos, or anyone) consciousness can live in the cradle as its a stable environment. Everything is controlled and there are no unknown variables that can cause it deteriorate and fall apart. This is why he was is/was able to continue to control the system and block Delos agents from hacking into it. MY best guess is that as part of Bernard going into the Cradle, it uploaded a certain part of Ford onto Bernard. I personally think its only a small portion of Fords consciousness, as having both downloaded onto one host would likely cause it to overload like Abernathy.
Didn’t the tall Delos douche say that now that they had Abernathy they were just going to upload that info to the satellite?
Also that actress that plays Hale plays a great villain/cunt I can tell because every week I root for her demise with a fury I haven’t felt since maybe The Patriot
Correct but they were also talking about having to get it outside first. What actually happened was they acted incompetent for plot reasons so Dolores could get there in time.
Ehh I took it as they thought they’d have all the time in the world to download all that info and wasn’t expecting the robots to storm the building Also her fucking up made Delores turn Hale into her little bitch which I enjoyed so I’m willing to overlook it
Yeah I thought they had to get it to the beach and planned on getting the core out eventually. I could be wrong. Also it's supposed to be so much data that Abernathy is malfunctioning but they're just going to send it up like an email? They must have great reception in the future.
You can see her using the same assets her robot used on the show here in real life with her ex-husband Elon Musk... Also, just to talk about the episode, I thought it was really good. I thought the music was incredible throughout and that plays a huge part with me. A lot of things happened that I absolutely did not expect (Maeve and MIB both getting shot up were pretty surprising although neither is dead yet) and Anthony Hopkins could do a dramatic reading of the phonebook and I'd be glued to the TV. In case anyone was wondering what the location is that Bernard gave up at the end after being virtually tortured by Hale and Co. it's right near where all the hosts were floating in the water so Abernathy's control unit and I assume Dolores are still there somewhere.
