#3 was born Monday. Ages 4, 2, and 0. Apparently, I only have Y chromosomes (Bc all 3 we didn't find out the sex)
had our first visit to the er last night. we were at an xmas party and she was sitting on a chair outside and fell backward and cracked her head on a rock. she was mostly fine other than the small gash on the back of her head that required a staple, but she handled it like a champ. never would know anything happened by the way she is acting today so its a bit of a relief. I think her mother cried more about it than she did. what an awful experience though.
My 5 year old had a friend come over yesterday for the first time. It was a big deal because she panics anytime she is around anyone not in her family. Incredible it has taken this long but she invited over a girl from her kinder class. My wife and I went out of our way to make sure the house would be fun for them. Got the movie room fired up with Moana, had ice cream with Reese's chocolate topping and then laid out a bunch of games/play-doh/barbies. It was a good feeling when the girl's mom came to pick her up and had to physically pry her daughter's fingers loose from our front door because she didn't want to leave.
What's the best baby monitor setup? The reviews online don't really point you in any one safe direction. I was kind of thinking about going with a nest cam/audio only portable monitor.
We have used the Summer infant video monitor for all our kids. Can add a monitor for both rooms. Never had any problems https://www.summerinfant.com/monitoring/video/baby-touch®-digital-color-video-monitor
It happened at 7:20est. 9lb 5oz, 21 inches long. Getting this little husk committed to the volleyball team tomorrow. Real big hands. That was an incredible experience. Felt AWFUL seeing the lady in so much pain and not being able to do anything. In other news, we discovered she will only sleep so far while being held... by me. Cool and shitty. Also, what on earth is this little thing dreaming about?
bought one from amazon or some other third party. a monitor and two cameras. had connectivity problems. Sent back to summer infant. They sent me another one. Still had connectivity problems. a couple weeks later, I receive a check in the mail from summer infant for the listing price. No instructions to mail the defective device back to them. returned the camera and monitors to the online vendor. Full refund issued. #dadhack
Amazing how the dreams of father and child line up. Baby dreaming of milk, while DrTomOsbourne is likely dreaming of the delivery vehicle for said milk.
So baby failed her hearing test today. Every single nurse told me it's extremely common. One nurse couldn't believe they did it when she was only 12 hours old. Anyone have experience with this? They're going to retry in the AM. Of course I'm paranoid she's fully deaf now.
#2 failed bc they did it at 14 hours old. there was still fluid in the ear. passed at 24 hours old. I was told it happens all the time as well.
My kid didn't fail to the point where the came back the next day, but he failed to the point where they ran the test 3 times during the original testing. Kid can definitely hear to the point now I consider killing the dogs for barking during nap time
That's the one thing we hear form everyone and we are starting to realize how true it is. We had our first back in July of this year and he's about to turn 6 months. It seems crazy to say it but its almost like we can't remember him being a little baby. He's like 17 lbs now and rolling around and starting to get a mind of his own.
Oldest turns 5 today. Can't believe that. He got a red Ryder BB gun despite his mother's concerns because
This place seems as good as any to put this... I am positive that the teletubbies are actually man eating monsters straight out of a Grimm novel. They have to large sharp teeth in those mouths. They are the stuff of nightmares...creepy pale faces, lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a dolls eyes. When they come at ya, doesn't seem to be livin...until it bites ya.
So true - my daughter is already 2.5. Yesterday when I picked her up from day care she was crying, so I asked her why and she said 'I was crying for you daddy' - dawwwwwwwwwwwwww lets go get some toys and candy.
I got the same thing from my son this morning. My wife is out of town and he woke me up at 2 am with his cries for daddy. I went in and cuddled with him for about 20 minutes in a rocking chair before putting him back to bed. As soon as I laid him back in the crib he started crying again so I turned the monitor off so that I could fall back asleep. This morning when I went to get him ready for daycare he said, "I cried for you daddy. I cried." I felt bad so I asked if he remembered cuddling in the middle of the night and he replied, "yes, I cuddled daddy." They can be so sweet at this age.
My son will be getting tubes a week from today. He'll be a week shy of 13 months. Didn't fare too well on the hearing test and had a lot of fluid in his ear despite numerous rounds of antibiotics over the last 8 weeks (and at least one ear infection a month since 3 months old). He's really vocal but not speaking words other than mamma/dadda, so I think this is going to help hm out. And hopefully he won't be in discomfort so much. #blessed to skate in before the end of the year to milk the sweet, sweet benefits of meeting our deductible.
Our son got them 2 days after he turned one. He had the same pattern of about one per month since 4 months. He has had 2 in the last 13 months. Our sleep is much better since then. T&Ps
Both of my boys had to have tubes, oldest at 10 months, youngest at 6. It made such a big difference in their sleeping habits and us not having to drag them to the Dr every other week with ear infections. My oldest is 3 now and talks his fucking head off so yours will have plenty of time to play catch-up.
I had numerous rounds of tubes... and my tonsils out... and sinus surgery in 8th grade... so this is my payback for keeping my parents in the ENT waiting room for the first decade of my life.
You didn't sound worried but I thought I would add that the vocabulary/word count is fairly normal for the age. From: http://www.pbs.org/parents/childdevelopmenttracker/one/language.html Expressive/Productive Vocabulary (words used when speaking or writing) At 12 months, the average child says up to three words and may also communicate by grunting, nodding, pointing, etc. At 15 months, the average child says 14 words. At 16 months, the average child says 40 words. At 18 months, the average child says 68 words. At 23 months, the average child says about 200 words. Once a kid figures out how to make the vowel and consonant sounds and can repeat what you say their words seem endless. Our son's vocabulary exploded between 18 months and 24 months. The tubes should definitely help with being more precise with making the sounds and will make it less likely he has to see a speech therapist to fix speech issues later.
ugh... we think the kid is teething at 5 months. drooling all over everything, chewing on everything, being a grumpy asshole, and his sleep schedule has gone to shit. this is the worst. any good pro tips for getting through this phase?
I bought my 3.5yo girls a power wheels today for Christmas. I'm going to try and keep it a surprise from my wife too. Its a john deere gator. The girls call it a tractor. https://www.walmart.com/ip/19765501
Child looked AT me, and not "through" me tonight for first time (if that makes new dad sense). Pretty cool feeling.
My 13 month can say 4.5 words. Mama, dada, daag (dog), and a mixture of hi/bye. Getting molars in now and way worse teething issues than his front teeth.
Molars and incisors really suck. The worst part is they come later so you've forgotten how much teething in general sucks.
