So one of the places I'm looking at is on Magazine St. & 2nd St but it only has street parking. How likely would I be to still have all my windows by the end of the trip?
That’s a pretty good spot. Tracey’s is a good bar right by there and a lot of places are within walkable distance.
Also, how long should I expect to wait for a table for 2 at Jacques-Imo's on a Saturday if I get there around 5:00?
Creole had a little lot but its not gated or guarded. Had no issues though. There's a couple businesses right there so maybe that helps idk. Couldn't see the car from the room. But again, no issues. The lot may have a camera I'm not sure,I know they had some facing right outside the gate and on the sidewalk in front. Stood out front both night late smoke a joint and had zero foot traffic and only a couple cars drive by so pretty quiet for being only a couple blocks from main roads.
I spent a lot of time in that area a few years ago and parked on the street and never had a problem, but it definitely could happen. Parasol’s is right there and is pretty great.
Don’t do it vs the other. The actual hotel may be nice but there’s not really anything right there. Much sketchier area. And fwiw very few places in New Orleans have parking (once you leave a hotel). The city was obviously well established before the car was invented.
Do you mind me asking what section/ area you're in and how much you paid per ticket? Just trying to gauge what an good deal on the resale market is and which side of the stadium is the FSU side.
When are y'all looking at going? New Orleans can be a lot of fun, I don't think it's particularly fun for kids. The zoo is cool as are the aquarium, insectarium, and the children's museum. We also take our daughter to do escape rooms around the city- but it's not a lot of family activities, and depending on the time of year it may be simply too hot/humid to exist outside.
Just booked a room for Labor Day weekend. Primary purpose is to go to the FSU/LSU game for my wife's birthday (she's an FSU grad). Kids are 7 and 9. I'm sure they would like the zoo, aquarium, etc. but we have that stuff in Tampa too. I was more looking to do some food tastings, historical sight seeing, and live music experiences. Stuff that they're kind of on the verge of being able to enjoy, but would ultimately be more fun without them. Like I fully plan on booking a food tour on either that Saturday or Sunday, and I'm not really looking forward to dropping an extra $150 for them to not try anything and/or say it's gross.
We saw a couple of those food tours go by and I was thinking how miserable they look haha. Not that they weren't trying good food, but they were hitting up spots I was already going to. Seemed like a weird way to eat and get over full, but maybe someone is ready to hit 3 more spots after a muffulletta sandwich
It's more for the wife. I'm good creating my own itinerary or wandering aimlessly. She likes a guided tour of wherever we go because getting the history behind our stops makes her feel like a local. I draw up the same stops and its "why are we going to these randomm places? No, I don't want to try that!"
Trying to make dinner reservations for Friday and Saturday night just to have something on standby. Any Garden District or FQ recs?
NM I see the wife is with you. Antoine's and Brennan's are always winners. Galatoire's as well. Are the kids definitely going with you? Brennan's is probably the best of those for the kids being along.
i might have said it before but it deserves a reiteration, the oysters rockefeller at antoines are hot trash stay far away
yeah there's a lot good at Antoine's, I don't count that among them, so many places to get good oysters of all stripes in the city, Antoine's is great for other reasons.
https://www.enr.com/articles/54575-...ed a,sportsbook that's now under construction. RE: SPORTSBOOK AT HARRAHS As of late July, Gritter says the project is about 80-85% complete and looking to achieve substantial completion on time. “We’re on the homestretch right now,” he says.
So we're staying at a B&B in the Garden District. Have a FQ food tour scheduled Saturday afternoon and then the game Sunday night. Was thinking of doing Jacques-Imo's for dinner Saturday night and then Ubering to Frenchman St. after. Cafe du monde Sunday morning, maybe WW2 museum, and then bar hop the FQ before heading to the Superdome.
i think i say this in here all the time but Mr. B's lunch $1.50 martinis and BBQ shrimp sitting at the bar with the boat captains who have reserved seats is something I do every trip. only non-negotiable thing.
Will definitely be placing a few bets either Friday or Saturday morning. I had some luck at the roulette tables there last time I was in town, so I’m sure I’ll see if I can stay hot.
Cafe du Monde is great if you just go to the one in City Park instead. I would eat at La Boulangerie every day if it wouldn’t kill me in a month
I've been and have no desire to go. It's for the wife who's never been to put on the gram. But I'll do the other place Saturday or Monday morning.
La Boulangerie is way better than Cafe du Monde IMO (then again, I think beignets are hella overrated). I was there this past Wednesday, and they were filming for a Discovery channel food show about the history of king cake. If you do end up at La Boulangerie, I highly recommend the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant roll, and the espresso martinis are a good launch for gameday.
dont really have a go to for them, i'm meh on raw, love grilled and fried preparations also find grilled to be pretty consistent even among the touristy spots like Acme. the fried shrimp and oyster po boy at verti marte is on the short list of best things i've ever eaten but iirc since the last big hurricane they haven't had oysters since the local stock got nuked. the grilled at cochon are probably the best I've had.
Make time after the museum before the bar hopping to go down to Cochon Butcher, it's barely two blocks from the museum and the sandwiches are out of this world.
Heading down in November for the LSU game- where do y'all recommend for good live music (I love the New Orleans brass sound) in the FQ or Frenchman? Or outside too I guess Is Tipitina's still good?
