I love Billy, but I can’t ever pass up Kermit on Frenchmen when I’m in town. Probably do one of each.
Depends on when you go. I've done it relatively often, but usually right after work so they are just getting started. The bar itself is only like 6 seats, so it probably gets a little tougher later in the evening.
What’s a solid Sunday morning breakfast and drink joint to consider? We like Stanley’s but feel like it may be a real shit show
went there last night for the first time before the pels game. I enjoyed it. Seems like a cool spot. Got the wings and they were ok. Not blue oak quality but solid. Their drinks are really good tho
Thinking about checking it out over the weekend. I still need to find my way to the revamped Avenue Pub. Also, if you are looking for a funky wine bar. Tell Me Bar off of Annunciation is pretty nice.
I keep forgetting about checking out the new Avenue pub … I guess cus it’s uptown and I just rarely make it uptown
Tracey's would probably be a good spot. Finns maybe yacht club. Just thinking of places are for sure going to have the sound on
Ate at Jewel of the South last night, in the quarter. Not very authentic New Orleans -- they had 4 diff types of caviar and 2 diff foie gras to give you an idea -- but still very good. Had haggis for the first time and it was delicious. Also had a zuchini/miso dish, sweetbreads, harachi tartar, and some cured wagyu. Would rec
Anyone have a line on 2 cheap one day tickets for Jazz Fest? I think we are only going to be able to go tomorrow. We just got into Baton Rouge and plan to stay here for today/night then head to Nola tomorrow for the weekend.
there's always people selling singles outside the gates but it's risky (could be fake), but may be worth if u can get one for 40-50 bucks. At the box office it's 95 a day. Which btw is bananas
Ya I was trying to avoid the scalpers this year. I’ve been able to get cheap ones out there before but the last time I went in 2019 no one would budge on price. Fuck that $95 a day shit.
I'm just shitposting, I've only been to NOLA once and I've never been to Jazz Fest. Frenchman Street was awesome though. Never seen anywhere with that much live music happening every night and starting in like the afternoon.
Jazz Fest isn't really my scene, but my daughter was losing her mind about seeing Mumford and Sons. They put on a good show. Brought Trombone Shorty, Jon Batiste and another guitarist I'm not familiar with on stage and did House of the Rising Sun.
It's not really my scene either, but had a blast. Ate incredibly well. Saw Galactic, Ne-Yo, Mumford. The group I was with does a lot of inner-city school work, so we watched a bunch of dancing/hip hop performances at the kids tent which was really fun. I've seen Trombone Shorty a few times, but man yesterday he was electric. That show was incredible. And then some neighborhood/porch concerts for like an hour on the way out as the sun set. Overall 10/10 day.
This was my first time attending since I was probably 12. Overall it's excellent people-watching (hearing an early 30s lady go off about how she's prettier and funnier than her ex's new girl made me laugh). I hate the fact that very few places for shade exist on the field, and if you get caught in the rain (we didn't on Thursday), it's pretty much mudfest. Leon Bridges was pretty good. But by the time he came on, we had been out there for 6+ hours, and some of his tracks are just too slow for a festival IMO (I learned that he played at St.Vincent Hotel later that evening, and it was awesome).
The weather just killed a lot of plans. VRBO had so many problems. Few places we wanted to go closed for one reason or another. I don’t know we just couldn’t catch a break it seemed.
Heading to New Orleans this weekend. Not going to be a wild weekend by any measure, relaxing and eating good will be the bulk of the trip. Looking for some low-key fun things to do. Sazerac House has great reviews. Was maybe going to a do a ghost tour. Been to the WWII museum before. Staying at Four Seasons if it matters. Current dinner reservations at Marjie's Grill, Saint Germain, and Miss River (at the hotel).
We went to Lilette last night for the first time, and it may have taken over my top spot in New Orleans. It was fantastic.
