Goodness, I'm through two episodes (excellent of course) and never once made the Chris Partlow connection.
I don't know why I was delaying, but watched both episodes last night. It is now appointment viewing.
I legit thought it was Oden for a minute. This show is amazing. Only complaint is Maggie's tits. They are awful. Although I really like her in this role.
Love the show so far, my only real complaint is Franco playing 2 characters which I think is more of a distraction than anything else
Franco is fabulous so far, like the wire but with a fantastic lead actor. McNulty was good, he's no Franco though.
I wish Zoe Kazan had a more prominent role because that ass in that onesie was on point god damn I love her
I'm digging the show so far. This is the only Simon show I've watched besides the Wire. So far, I'm a huge hypocrite because every time this show does something like the Wire I roll my eyes. The intro music reminds me of the Wire's; the way the outro music kicks in at the end; the conversation the two pimps were having where he compared Nixon and Vietnam to pimping; etc.
It's weird seeing that bartender being a big gay when in Banshee he was a raging racist, white power, neo-nazi.
This show is fabulous but don't like how they focused on Maggie and gay dude this episode, just keep with the overall story because it's great.
What? Clearly the Maggie story is setting up a lot. In the past several episodes you have seen a bit of the backstory to Maggie, her family dynamics, and her desire to develop a real relationship. This episode you saw her get the shit beat out of her and how she has to cover all of that up and go straight back out to the street, probably kill her new relationship, get mentally abused by a pimp, and seek out a path in porn. We saw a fuck ton of character development in the past few episodes.
I'm saying we don't need to focus on singular characters so much at this point, what was confusing about what I said?
"Daddies, husbands and pimps are all the same. They love you for who you are until you try to be someone else"
That was a great line. The casting has been phenomenal (no surprise) Meth and Tarik (Black Thought) were born for this shit. Oh and CC, good god. Love the actress playing Darlene. I'd like more of "Gentle Richie" (that anecdote about how he was the one needing consolation or whatever was hilarious and Shay (thannnnngs)
Great episode. I started BB, sopranos, the wire a few seasons after they started; happy to be in on the ground floor.
Show is lights out good. You almost need to shower to get the gritty 70s NYC off of you and I love it. It's The Wire with better actors. Not as original bc of The Wire, though. I really like Michael Rispoli as the made guy making things happen. Perfectly cast, admittedly typecast.
