idk what you’re asking or saying but I haven’t said it was okay to use racial slurs about anyone Latino or otherwise. Maybe im misunderstanding your point.
It’s for cowboys fans maybe. Can’t remember but my point is just that some people use these to make themselves feel superior or they just want to fit in.
I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s impossible to use a racial slur against “cowboy fans” because they are notoriously known to not be a “racial group”.
yeah, I will find it at some point but it is definitely not a slur if you were never offended by it. It referred to Mexican fans fighting. i kind of found it offensive but who am I to judge,
the real answer is you're searching for anything that could make that person hurt or feel lesser and slurs are up there. same reason women get called bitches and cunts, same reason a lot of guys call another guy a faggot. hurtful terms meant to elicit a prescribed response.
are you talking about the term “cholo”? Well if so it’s not a slur in and of it self. mc415 uses the term a lot and don’t he is using it as a racial slur. I guess it can come off a using “thug” to describe black men but it’s a little more complicated than that. It would be like seeing a black man dressed in all red or blue and calling him a gangster, a blood or a crip. While we wouldn’t know if he was we might infer it by certain clues. Calling someone a cholo might be seen as disrespectful but it isn’t automatically a slur. It certainly isn’t like dropping the soft A or the hard R.
To be honest I don’t normally have any volume on for videos like this. Mainly because of this exact reason, I don’t want someone around me to hear some insane fighting words as I casually view something from the internet. I guess I just never paid attention.
I got it, but I was well off. doyers fans seems like a shitty thing to say. Not on point with the discussion here but still seems like an insult with a racial tone.
school me in the term, I'm 3,000 miles away here tucked away in Virginia. when I've heard that term it brings up the very stereotypical Latino gangster with the Dickies, the bandana, and either a wifebeater or an undershirt with a flannel over top, often just buttoned by the top button. makes me think of the three dudes in Training Day who Alonzo tried to get to kill Jake.
I don’t think the way that used the word was meant to be a “racial slur”. I’m not going to get into defending the use of the word especially by a CAC but some stupidly believe using the soft A isn’t a slur. IT IS NEVER OKAY FOR A WHITE PERSON TO USE EITHER FORM. SOFT A OR HARD ARE BOTH OFF LIMITS.
A cholo is a Latino gang member. I believe the term gets its origin from group that is indigenous to Peru ( the ethnic group is literally the Cholos). I believe the term was because of a similar style of dress. So the word isn’t necessarily a slur it depends on who uses it and maybe more importantly how it’s used. Like the word “thugs” while not inherently offensive but we often know what someone means when they use the word.
IMO it’s weird for people to use it to make fun of someone’s accent. But, again mc415 being brown I know he isn’t using it as a slur. I believe I said to Hoss Bonaventure that him and one of his family members saying would be iffy . Context matters.
Stop deflecting I am fine with being a cac just like you are fine having Mexicans dodgers fans being called doyers. like you said context matters
LOL I have no problem calling CACs that so yeah. Also my guy Mexican Dodger fans aren’t called Doyers. The Dodgers are called Doyers. When someone says “Doyers” they literally mean the Dodgers. What some people is use “doyer” to mess with Dodger fans many who are Latino and have an accent. But, some dodger fans without accents also say Doyer as a term of endearment. It in no way is meant or used as a racial epithet.
I’d never say that. My dad is a lifelong dodgers fan and I know he’s never heard it said like that. He only wears cowboy hats and Dodgers baseball hats.
I always thought it was “doy” as in the sound someone makes when making fun of a stupid person. AKA Dodgers fans don’t think good. I’ve only been to LA twice in my life so I may be out of the loop.
IMO it depends on the person saying it. It’s no different than someone pronouncing words with an Indian or Asian accent. I’ve never heard it used in a way that was offensive.
It’s what made me think it was kind of an insult. It’s a bit to make fun of them for their accent but like you said it’s all about context
If you use it to make fun of their accent sure. But if a white guy walks into a bar here on opening day, and yells "Let's go Doyers", they're more likely to get a round bought for them than get into a fight
like I said I’ve never heard it used in an offensive way. I don’t think it’s necessarily offensive but it could be.
Here’s the backstory on Doyers … again. It’s not an offensive term, if anything it’s one of endearment.
Agree, most of the fights in here are over dumb shit. But, I guess with the booze and testosterone it’s to be expected if expected not surprising.
I know you don’t follow soccer, but Chelsea and West Ham are the two worst fanbases in the PL by a fairly wide margin. They’re also London rivals and when you add alcohol to the mix you fuck around and find out more often than not.
I feel like an obscenely large amount of football fans are trash with a few exceptions like I'm guessing the Japanese. I just saw a video of Matt Damon describing going to an Argentinian football match and it sounds like he visited a DMZ. just utter degeneracy everywhere that sport exists.
I have some neighbors that are Chilean and the husband is a fan of Colo-Cola which is the top team generally in the league. He said he wouldn't dare go to a game against their rival wearing his team's colors. Both teams are in Santiago which is pretty safe. It's like South American police forces know that they can't even control the hooliganism between rival teams.
Love the grade school justification of he hit me first...yeah what does that mean...you should have swung first dude
Alright tough guy. Better ways to do that. That guy falls just right and dies and you can have fun preaching your macho bullshit in prison.
while I think there are times that most people will use violence I can’t say sports are ever worth fighting over.
