It annoys me that I almost completely missed the lafreniere evaluation, I was sure he would be the most ready nhl player in his draft year with a lower upside maybe than some flashier players that were drafted later. Some of that is probably still true but it took him way too long to get there, I would have never predict that. My comp of mark stone seems pretty spot on though
Hard to say.. We are missing 4 of our top 6 forwards, plus our second best defensemen. Long term, we should get most/all of those guys back and be stronger after thanksgiving. The two biggest issues for this team will likely not go away; goaltending being terrible and the Landeskog situation hanging over the team. Honestly no idea what in the world is going on with Landy, seemed there was optimism in the summer but that's died out completely. I don't know how much longer the team can wait for an answer without making some decision.
Good deal, imo. He’s a top 5-8 goalie in the league and the contract should be for the entirety of his prime.
Nil is such a good gm but man does he suck at signing free agents. He’d be by far the best gm if he was better at that.
He has a ton of playoff experience and has been very solid. It’s much better to lock him down than let him walk and play your chances when you have such a good core. Realistically, that looks to be what any good goalie is going to get from now on
Also, his career numbers are very similar to both Ullmark and Swayman. It’s a good deal imo. At least they didn’t treat him like shit like Boston did with Swayman
He’ll get his 12 and the Rangers will be hamstrung for the entirety of the contract. I know where this is going. I just have a sliver of hope we move him.
What would a return even be? If it’s sign then trade who has room for that? If he’s unsigned where’s the value?
Teams trade for player rights after the season and before free agency kicks off all the time. The return is usually not substantial, but at least it’s something. And if there’s nobody else willing to commit to him at what he’s asking for, that’s a great sign that you shouldn’t either.
This is a great chirp, but if we are being honest, both Swayman and Igor put up fantastic performances in the playoffs, especially against the Panthers.
Can’t say I am a fan of the digital ads creeping up more board space. Panthers have it near the blue line now.
I know everyone has to play somewhere, but is there a better way to throw cold water on a new season than four straight 10pm local puck drops to start? I’m a sicko and will be up till 1 tonight but casuals barely know the season has started.
People always talk about these road trips being a good way to get a team together to start but from what I have seen it can easily kill you if things do not go well. This is especially tough for young teams.
Love the Preds being 0-4. Haven’t wanted a non-Leafs team to fail this badly in a while. Absolutely nauseating how much hype they received for handing out big contracts to Stamkos and Marchessault.
I noticed in the season opener that your ridiculous super-low camera angle returned, after being absent for the playoffs. Disappointing since I thought it was gone forever.
They won't be near this bad all year, but I did think Stamkos was kind of an odd fit for them. They snuck into the playoffs by being a scrappy, two way team that punched above their weight last year. Stamkos at this point in his career is basically the exact opposite of that identity, and I don't think he really makes them better for what they're paying him.
I was about to post today that despite the terrible start Buffalo has been playing good 5v5 hockey and now they’re getting worked by Chicago
no idea what he is paid but it seems to me that sometimes teams will pick a player in the late first as a good complementary player but the management or fanbase gets tired of him because they expected a star player, not every first rounder brings the same thing broberg was always a solid second pairing d fo me. And in the late first round it is a great pick
Delta Center is complete trash. Crazy dark on TV. There is a broken spot along the boards where the puck jumps outs into the slot, which happened like five times. Fix your rink. Bring back Mullett Arena
Rough for Benoit to slide into the post neck first while having the puck go in off you and past the goalie.
