So they let him give the goalie a horrible extension with a limited NMC and then fired him 2 days later? What a shitshow. It’s clear that he’s a truly horrific GM but the oilers problems are higher and deeper than just him.

 

Like I said before, their whole front office and owner needs to go.

I guess they could have still gotten one of Barzal/Connor/Chabot/Boeser, though. Other 3 aren't Barzal valuable but would still be massive for them right now.

 

Hall clearly just wanted out and was gonna be gone regardless of who was GM I think. Most reasonable coulda/shoulda top 2 lines is probably something like:

Kotkaniemi is really growing on me, that kid is going to be very good.

There’s absolutely no reason to try and push for the playoffs. That would be stupid. They should be sellers right now, but if they do absolutely nothing, they’re going to be in a pretty good spot in a couple of years.

 

The big rumor was mtl were willing to trade Subban and their first round pick (8th overall I think, they picked sergachev)

Versus hall, klefbom and the oilers first round pick (4th overall, puujularvi)

But mtl pulled their offer when Columbus picked Dubois if that is true.

It would have been a great trade for mtl, and you can still pick sergachev if he is your guy like they said all along.

And even with this being a steal for mtl it would still have been a better deal for Edm than what they got.

MTL really wanted Dubois in that draft. Supposedly they had Subban trades worked out with Edmonton (who wanted Puljujarvi) and Vancouver (which I think was the more likely Subban suitor iirc).

The difference is that the Western Conference blows this year.

 

The west is truly bad this year, Nashville and Winnipeg are the only good team.
