No telling with Russians, should've came over to the OHL at least. I'm always weary about drafting Russians especially in Vancouver.
Just give me the forward on the board with the most skills. I don't know who that is but I can tell you I don't want a defenseman and I don't want any player whose top attribute is character.
I see Caufield, Newhook, and Knight in your future. The Rangers need everything, especially on D because they don't really have any good young D in their system.
Almost all of the Rangers prospects are defenseman so they better not pick another one in the first round. I would have no issue picking a guy as small as Caufield but this coaching staff will have no part of it considering they hated Zuccarello.
It probably doesn't matter who the Rangers draft as long as David Quinn is the coach. As bad as AV was this guy takes stupidity to another level.
The odds of you getting a top 2 pick are incredibly low. Why are you setting yourself up for disappointment?
It’s a strong draft Pelletier will play in the nhl, the kid is on the small side but so smart and hockey sense is off the chart. If he was 6 ‘ he would be a top 10 pick. Can’t wait to see mtl pass on him
Are any of the Rangers D prospects any good? The Rangers need to add solid prospects to every position imo and should draft the BPA.
Yeah, when you are in a situation like the rangers you just pick the best player. They won’t be a contender for a while so drafting for need is kinda stupid.
Yep and it'd help if the Stars' and Lightning's 2nd Rd picks become 1st Rd picks to build their prospect pool. They'll get Winnipeg's 1st Rd pick this year too. Also need to not rush their prospects and let them develop.
Miller is supposed to be pretty good and they have a few others that were picked high as well as Hajek who was the key to the McDonagh/JT Miller deal. The Rangers also have DeAngelo who has had a very good season. This team can have a good defense within 2-3 years if they do the right thing and sign DeAngelo and Claesson long term. The issue with the Rangers regarding the defense is the front office and coaching staff cannot evaluate talent. They still believe that Staal is a first pair defenseman and for some unknown reason Neal Pionk is playing twenty minutes a night while DeAngelo and Claesson often get scratched. Any team in need of a solid defenseman would be smart to look at Claesson.
Elite forwards are much harder to find than defenseman. Kravtsov is the only Rangers forward prospect with any upside and I don't know how good he will be since the Rangers probably picked him 10 spots higher than any other team would have.
Did you read the article posted by someone here on defensemen and how they are used. Claesson is playing against the worst players from the other team, of course he looks ok.
Elite forwards are harder to find than defensemen....of course. But elite defensemen are harder to find than elite forwards. Just take the best player, end of story.
Claesson has looked good when he has played and he will come cheap. I am not saying that he is elite but he has been the Rangers second best defenseman behind only DeAngelo and a team can do far worse than signing him for the 4 yrs/10 million or so that he will probably get.
I forgot about Miller, but he's another year or two away. Still think you need more D besides F and G. If the Rangers truly are doing a rebuild, they need to fully commit to one by playing more kids for development and to see what they have. Also don't sign any UFAs unless you'll flip them at a trade deadline, take on bad contracts for draft picks and/or prospects, and the organization from top to bottom to fully commit to playing the kids with some veteran insulation at all levels.
Elite D are hard as fuck to find, ask Canucks fans how hard it is to find elite, hell even good to decent D. D take more time to develop than Forwards.
Exactly, usually it’s not on purpose. Like Edmonton and Toronto. They just suck so bad at everything that they hit the jackpot....and still suck. Boston and Tampa are incredibly good examples of teams that draft good and keep on winning. No need for a huge tank job, just draft well and win your trades
There's maybe 1 D prospect in the top 10 in Byram. I think if you take any of the top 10 F's in this class you have a really good chance of getting a good player.
The Rangers need to draft the most talented player, regardless of position, with every pick. Ideally those would be centers, but I don’t care at this point. The Rangers can’t fully tank bc Lundqvist keeps them in a lot of games (13 loser points this year). So unless they do something with him, the tank can’t happen. Therefore they will be active in free agency this year and attempt a modified rebuild.
I think for the most part it's on purpose. Need to be able to develop players too, that's what the good organizations do.
As long as CBJ doesn’t win the lottery Sens will have their pick...which should be in the 15-20 range. Biggest need is a top 4 RD. Set with Chabot, Wolanin and Brannstrom on the left. Anyone stand out as a mid first RD who can play as a top 4?
If the Rangers keep most of this team intact and don't add Panarin they will finish in the bottom 3 next year which is exactly what they should be doing.
Ottawa? Sens are in good shape with prospects. Decent depth on D, with a couple of top end guys. Seem to have 3 decent goalie prospects. Good depth for 2/3 line C in White, Norris, Chlapik and Brown. And some good wings in Batherson, Tkachuk and Forementon. Need an elite C and another righty D. Plus a boatload of picks in the next few drafts.
Rangers fans forget that mcdonaugh was traded from mtl for Gomez and his 11 millions a year contract I still dream about a top pairing of Subban and mcdonaugh.
Three picks in the top 40ish this year. Next year potentially 3 first rounders and 3 2nds. Hopefully an elite player can be found but like you say, gives you options.
