"He just made a mistake as a first-year GM. In 2021 the Stan I know would be better." But he's leaving anyway
I'm reading the report and I don't know the players' personal lives well enough but it should be really easy. They have a ton of identifying details
Two former Blackhawks players claimed in their interviews and publicly in 2021 that, during the 2010 playoffs, “everyone” knew about Aldrich engaging in inappropriate conduct with players.469 In particular, Brent Sopel claimed in his interview and publicly that “everyone” was talking about how Aldrich wanted to “touch penises” during the 2010 playoffs and that “everyone” knew.m, 470 Nick Boynton stated in his interview and publicly that during the 2010 playoffs, numerous Blackhawks players asked him what happened regarding Aldrich
If this happened in any of the other 3 major sports, it would be an enormous story. Seems like only hockey people are talking about it .
I don't mean to downplay what Gruden did, but this is ten times the story and it will probably get 1/10th the coverage.
in a vacuum without any other day-to-day occurrences, this account is plausible as to why he said he didn't know. This is from the investigation, not a statement from Q. But this is just based on the one meeting and not day-to-day locker room chatter, etc.
I get being mad at the players for completely indefensible behavior towards the victim, but for me the biggest villains (aside from Aldrich) in all this are the people in power that both allowed and supported Alrich as he continued to work in hockey and prey on players in college and even high school.
Fire Quenneville, Cheveldayoff, Bergevin and everyone involved. And suspend players too. This is fucking disgusting/revolting.
whats fucked up is it seems like sexual abuse/harassment is endemic to hockey culture and I don’t know why that is? Is it because you have a bunch of boys that get sent away from their families at 15/16 years old?
I definitely witnessed plenty of mild, but still fucked up shit growing up in locker rooms (and going to an all boys school).
One of my oldest hockey memories was being at a hockey camp in Michigan and the older kids were kind of the RA's at the dorm we stayed at. They were telling us horrific shit that went on in junior locker rooms. This was in the early 90's.
sounds like he was well prepared for his meeting with the investigator. not a defense of Q at all, but apparently he wrote very similar generic evaluations for the entire support staff. I still don't see how he survives this.
