That's my read as well. The question becomes did he hear sexual assault and then stick his head in the sand or a generic "issue" and then say, I've got a game to coach. One makes him negligent, the other makes him a piece of shit. Either way, he failed his players in a major way.
My issue here (beyond the obvious grossness of his comment) is Q stayed employed as the coach for many years after, so at some point he had to hear jokes made about Aldrich. I refuse to believe otherwise. So, what else is out there that could still leak if there are subsequent lawsuits? Q and the Hawks leadership group almost certainly fostered a toxic environment for the victim.
the AHL coach mentioned an Aldrich incident in one of his player reports. this was no secret. and Aldrich's career continued and more young men were put at risk while nobody said anything.
Also, once Kane and Toews are off the Covid list, I want to hear what they have to say. It’s nice that Chicago trotted our players that weren’t around when this shit happened, but they need to explain themselves as well.
Good point. Anyone that knew what happened to the victim failed any subsequent victim by not reporting this to the police.
heard someone discuss this on the radio and there was a term for it because obviously it’s happened in Catholic Churches and other places like schools. You move the person out and then it’s not your problem anymore, you move on and consider it handled but you didn’t actually address the problem
I am sure that did claim that, which is why I want Kane and Toews to put it on the record. I would love to see what happens in Discovery if there are lawsuits.
i find it hard to believe most, if not all, of the players had some inkling of what Aldrich was up to. That said I don’t expect a 20 and 21 year old to stand up against the machine when their boss and their boss’ bosses did nothing
This is one place I'll protect Q. I'd be shocked if these kind of comments were happening while the coach was around. The locker/dressing room is the player's domain outside of the 10 minutes prior to puck drop and 5 minutes during intermission. The coaches really don't spend much time in there at all.
When you have players talking shit to other players about blow jobs from the Aldrich and calling them the f-slur, claiming you didnt know about it isnt gonna fly.
Sure, assuming the shit talk was just in the room. I have my doubts that it was limited to only those moments.
Right now we are all assuming things, and that’s the problem. We don’t know, right? But if you’re Florida or Winnipeg, aren’t you terrified by what could still be out there? Why would you stick your neck out for either guy when you already got blindsided by this once? The worst thing either franchise could do is allow either guy to continue on representing the team in an official capacity and then more bombs drop.
From the league perspective yeah, but for Florida from a business perspective I’m sure they’d think the benefit of keeping Q and making a cup run out weighs potential further bomb drops. Winnipeg I’d think would be different though.
From the Panthers' perspective. IMO they have more to lose by firing him now and potentially altering this season than they do keeping him and dealing with the backlash which will admittedly be much smaller because they are buried in SFL. I feel dirty just typing it out, but IMO that's how this is playing out in their minds.
Sadly, you’re both likely right, but considering it’s exactly what Chicago did, it’s just depressing to think about it happening again. Bettman might suspend both guys the remainder of the year, which would make it easier for the Jets and Panthers to move on this Summer, but I’m not holding my breath.
There is zero local pressure to get rid of Q right now. Ex. George Richards is doing a radio hit right now and the first 5 min of the interview were about the hot start, next was Bobrovsky's hot start, then they finished up on Q's situation, with no real discussion of what SHOULD happen to Q, just what might happen to Q.
The league and PA are supposed to meet about the Covid protocols next week; I have to imagine they bring back taxi squads with how things are going. I doubt it’ll be the same as last year, but probably up to three more guys available.
A seamless transition from the guy involved in a super aggressive sexual assault cover up to the guy involved in a less aggressive sexual assault cover up.
Katie Strang is breaking down into tears on The Athletic Hockey Pod. You can tell covering this has taken a toll on her. :(
He had a very powerful voice in that meeting and it seems like he basically said to the group someone else handle this shit I have a team to coach. That's not enough imho and he wouldn't be coaching in this league anymore if it was up to me.
Florida had that buzz of a team so many fans were going to get behind come the playoffs and they are pissing it all away by not owning up and firing Q. It’s embarrassing for any franchise, but especially one that is a complete afterthought nine years out of ten.
This is so sad, I remember him being a total fuck head and fighting little guys, cheapshotting people in camp and thinking get this guy the fuck out of here
