A former 7th rounder who massively overplayed his draft status at the WJC last year and a likely late 1st. so no.
So as a very casual fan who has never heard of this guy, how shall I feel about my panthers acquiring this young man
Really fucking good. Very good 2 way forward who can play center or wing. Gives the panthers incredible flexibility in the lineup. If they can get him signed for 5 years at 5.5 aav it will be a massive win
The lightning finally get a pick! Seems like some love him and some don’t. Polarizing prospect. We need RD and he seems to project more as a lower pairing guy so I like the fit. We will see how he develops. Our track record with defenseman is not great.
Can't say I've ever seen him play outside of maybe seeing clips of him when he was still playing in high school, but late in round 2 seems like decent value from him. So most of the below is from what I've read up on him from other Gopher hockey boards. From what I've heard, his hands might be his biggest strength, and with that, he is fairly skilled. But sounds like he profiles more as a middle 6 forward than anything. I've seen skating listed as his biggest negative, but those that saw him back when he was Blake thought his skating was more than capable enough on the whole. His acceleration would probably be the biggest issue skating wise. I'm pretty sure I've had one of his relatives (Aunt? Grandmother?) as a teacher. He's from my hometown, but went the private school/prep school route as opposed to playing at my high school.
People were talking about him in the 3rd round as the best guy available. This seems like a great pick. No idea why he lasted this long but I’m glad we were able to get him. This seems like a guy who will be another lightning steal where people wonder how he lasted
Very happy to get a first and a good goalie prospect for a guy who was leaving next year because he is a free agent. Reinhart can go super cold for long stretches. He was really good from start to finish last year for the first time in a long time. Hope he ends up on a worthwhile team next year, whether it be with Florida or Vancouver or somewhere else. I think he has a really good 2021-2022 season.
they just use stats and base their rankings 100% on analytics. It’s possible that they run a few thousand into the database each year. They don’t actually know who anyone is outside the top few hundred like everyone though. I do also think that the covid year has been rough on certain analytics folks. Not sure all the stats this year translate like normal and I think some systems will perform poorly in this draft.
He’s already saying that he will be extending here. Worst case, the panthers paid a late first for a full season rental.
We have an ass ton of cap room, even tho we need to get Svechnikov a new deal too, but we aren’t going to get anyone better than Hamilton for cheaper, so may as well lock him down. Avoiding the Seth Jones contract would be nice.
FWIW, he really seems like the kind of kid that did a huge mistake at 17yo, who truly regrets it and deserves to deal with the consequences but not to have his life ruined. Looks like a completely differerent situation than that bully piece of shit from a year or two ago who showed no remorse.
It's a win/win deal. I think everyone's feeling good about this. Avs get more than Makar's worth and Makar gets paid before a bridge deal.
Jesus Christ, Montreal. How was the most obvious question not prepped for whomever was taking that interview?
