Point is really really good and the contract is great but Sakic had two 48 goal seasons by the time he was two years younger than Point is now.
I kind of feel like Stamkos chases one more ring and then retires when his deal is up. I don’t think he wants to go elsewhere, but I also think his body is going to give out on him. I feel like Tampa and Stamkos are in lockstep on this considering the extensions they are doling out.
I want someone to offer him 15x1 with the understanding they would do a normal contract the year after. I would love to see Benning match that/
and he was 41 points behind the league leader that season. Point had 41 and 50 in his age 22 season which is his last full season. Tough to compare raw stats from different eras though. Sakic and point just look similar to me when I watch them play. Both seem to get better when the playoffs start. Not a perfect comp. I think Sakic is a better playmaker and point is better defensively. I just see Sakic when I watch point play.
palat comes off the books after this year. Killorn the year after. I can’t see stamkos retiring before he gets 500 goals. My guess is that he plays in Tampa for 2 more seasons and then agrees to a trade for the final year of the contract. Brayden point is the only contract next season and he gets a 2.75 million raise. Cirelli, sergachev and cernak are the year after that. Tough to see them staying if stamkos isn’t gone.
sakic finished 6th and 15th in the league in goals in those 2 seasons. Sakic finished 38 and 28 goals behind the league leader those seasons. Point was 10 behind ovechkin with 41 goals his age 22 year. Side note, 1992-93 is still one of the most insane seasons statistically in any sport. Absolutely outrageous scoring numbers that I wish we could replicate again. https://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_1993_skaters.html#stats::goals
Is there a decent goalie who’s overpaid for 1-2 years? Could make a trade and get an asset for a guy. That could make sense.
I am surprised Boston found the time to scout anyone but bottom six players based on their activity today.
That makes a lot of sense for them. They let Rask use their facilities to recover while a UFA, then sign him to a 1 year pro-rated deal. Then do it all over again July 2022
