We know with almost a hundred per cent certainty that Alex Formenton is one of the five. Time for he and the rest to come pay the piper.
On 32 Thoughts Elliot said the 2 years ago the Sabres were asking for a 5th rounder for Tage Thompson and several teams passed.
Wild that that trade looks pretty much “fair” now. Blues got their cup which they don’t win without ROR and Buffalo got their future 1C.
Also this is pure speculation on my part but I don’t think Tage becomes the player he is now in STL. It was basically a situation of “we’re not a playoff team, we don’t have any clear top 6 C’s, fuck it, just try Thompson there” that saved his career. If he’s still with the blues he’s probably still languishing in a bottom 6 winger role or maybe even out of the league right now.
It's hard to say without ROR, Blues are probably looking at a rebuild or toiling on the bubble. There may have been enough space to let him grow. But if the blues move a different player in the trade and Tage stays on the blues w that Cup group, you are probably right.
I think his overall point was that if tage was on a better team, he gets sent to rot in the AHL a long time ago. Full credit to Buffalo for never giving up on him, but they were also in a position where they didn't have anyone else to play ahead of him.
Also goes to show that if these ultra talented kids get top 6 minutes and PP1 opportunities, there’s the possibility they figure it out. But if you don’t, you’ll never actually know what you have. Makes the Rangers mentality of “rebuild while trying to compete” all the more maddening.
He gets sent to rot, and moreover, he probably entirely changes his focus on the way he plays. “I’m just trying to make it back to the league in any way possible, so I have to be hard on the fore check, responsible defensively, don’t turn the puck over, and be a good net front presence.” Because that’s what coaches look for in 20 something NHL promotions, and is the exact opposite of what makes him effective. Not a shot against anyone, just a really interesting what-if game for me.
Flyers fans all knew when he was traded for and signed it was a horrible idea. Fletcher being fletcher
I missed the collapse against the Sabres so not sure what happened there, but he’s been really solid since. They don’t win in Boston without him, imo.
Christ. Still can’t beat these dorks. Pettersson with a fucking 5 point night and the shootout sealer.
Feel like the NHL is speaking for us when they say fans want to play every team to see different stars come through their building, does anyone really care about that. People would definitely rather see more division games. Isles/Rangers being done in December is pathetic, the covid season was awesome.
I completely disagree. I want to see McDavid. I don't want to see 8 games of Panthers v. Senators at the expense of seeing McDavid
Is it really that important to see a single player when a highlight of him doing something pops up on social media immediately
Id like to go on record and say I think this is fake news. I found teel annoying way before this season
I think there's a happy medium. It is cool to see other players, however, imo the rivalries are more important. The scheduling is horrible though. I like home and home back to backs against division rivals. That's cool to whip some animosity in a short time. But also, having all your games done w a division rival with months to play is terrible.
I will settle for one meeting a year instead of two, more division games and you get guys like McDavid in your building every other year. Glad we could work this out.
Honestly don’t like this either. Because all it takes is a badly timed injury and you don’t see a star player for 4 years.
I think the league needs to find a better way to space out the schedule so all the matchups aren’t crammed into a short span. Home and home with every team is a must IMO. 4-5 matchups with division foes. I don’t want a division skewed schedule that has 6+ matchups since not every divisional opponent is a rival. Space out the division games so there’s maybe one early on, two in the middle, and one post trade deadline.
4 of my last 5 NHL games were to see McDavid so yes, at register at least one vote for "I'd like to see players who make the game exciting" Have you ever compared ticket prices for games when LeBron is in town v. when he's not? Ever been curious why DeGrom games are more expensive than Tylor Megill games? You'll be shocked to learn that I no longer intend to go to the Inter Miami at Chicago Fire game now that Messi is staying in Paris
Hockey players play way less minutes than stars in other sports and are out there in short spurts with a lot going on. It’s probably the worst sport to key in on one player the more I think about it.
It's way more enjoyable seeing McDavid in-person than Trout/Judge/pick your favorite MLB position player. And the skill really transcends the screen more in hockey than it does in football
The best part of watching hockey live is being able to follow a player’s entire shift, imo. I get way more appreciation for a player’s skillset than I do following the puck on TV.
