When they got him, he was trained to be a service job. He failed all his test so the blues just kept him. Glad it happened this way
I can't imagine how dumb they would be to rush him back from a concussion for the fucking All Star Game. He just got a free 9 days to recover
Panetta really seems to be getting railroaded here. Obviously when it was the "monkey gesture" it got a ton of coverage but now that there's footage of him doing the same thing to white dudes and he everyone says he does that to mimic "tough guys" a lot, that's obviously not getting the same coverage. His apology was great too, had empathy for Subban and didn't blame him for his reaction. Admitted he shouldn't do it anymore. Yet he's still suspended for the year and his name forever associated with this
it’s a shame but perception is the problem we have nowadays. People believe what they want and immediately run with it. With the internet it creates a huge issue out of nothing and nobody will back the guy since it doesn’t look good.
I agree, I also don't think Subban did anything wrong in the first 24 hours after he saw the gesture. I get why he reacted the way he did.
is it that hard to not make monkey gestures at a black person? he'll go through some sensitivity program and be reinstated, I think he'll be fine.
You don't buy how it could be an honest mistake? Dudes have been doing that gesture during fights for years
no I fully accept it seems like it was an honest mistake. but people get punished for mistakes all the time.
I think the difference here is an error in judgment vs an intent and innocent mistake. He didn’t think he was doing an ape gesture. Just a tough guy one. It seemingly never crossed his mind it would be interpreted that way. It would be one thing if he intended to do the ape gesture and someone was dumb enough not understand why it set Subban off. His explanation and past examples of using what he thought was a tough guy gesture seems credible. It’s also to his credit he doesn’t blame Subban for his reaction. An unfortunate accident?? Idk how to put it.
Is there a chink in the armor of Jeremy Lin? Is Kevin Porter good at pulling the trigger? Is Chelsea's offense cooking with gas against Tottenham? Sometimes life is just unlucky
I think there is still the bigger issue that this guy was making a gesture that can easily be construed as racist for years without anyone telling him to cut it out. It took him doing it tons black guy for people to finally say it was a bad idea.
well the issue is that Panetta claims he was doing this which still makes the rounds on social media anytime the caps play the rangers. It wasn't racist then. It honestly never crossed my mind that this could look like a monkey gesture in the wrong eyes until this incident. The evidence does show that he had done this in the past regardless of skin color of his opponent. HOWEVER, Subban interpreted it as a monkey gesture. If that's how he saw it, that's how he saw it and has every right to be upset. Tragic misunderstanding or not, Subban felt he was the victim of a racist gesture in the moment and reacted accordingly. Nobody should be or is blaming Subban. To me this seems like a tragic misunderstanding where the damage is done.
There’s also a large enough segment of hockey twitter that means well but completely makes up their mind as soon as an incident surfaces. Panetta is racist and you’re promoting racism by even acknowledging his side of the story. Similar things have happened with the Rielly “rag-it” audio homophobia allegations, and we’ve seen it in other sports like with the fan calling the Rockies mascot (“Dinger”) that got everyone up in arms. Way too many racist/homophobic incidents take place in society, but that doesn’t mean every single potential incident is racist/homophobic when a reasonable explanation exists. Sucks so much for Subban because regardless of Panetta’s intentions, he perceived it as a racial gesture (for good reason unfortunately) and that’s a feeling no one should have to experience.
Should also specify that there’s the even worse side of hockey twitter that uses the slightest hint of an incident being misunderstood as concrete proof that allegations were made up. They’re also posting in support of the ongoing trucker convoy.
I watched pretty much the whole Lundqvist ceremony, I don’t think I’ll ever respect a player that caused me so much agony close to as much as him. Wife is of course a dime and he has a twin
Switched to the Bruins/Coyotes game. Choice was between Jack Edwards or Tyson Nash. The mute button won.
The whole Arizona thing is such a fascinating shitshow to watch unfold from right here. Bettman cares more about keeping the team here than the market does. If QC was the destination I’d be happy to see them leave. Just not Houston.
There’s new footage of the incident from a different angle and it definitely looks a tough guy pose (50 second mark): But for people like Wyshynski, there will never be any other possible conclusion besides that the player was racist
Hartberdeau just ran a Michigan play action pass in overtime. Faked the Michigan and 2 sharks caught watching him so he just passes to Bennett in front for the winner. Love.
I remember singing huberdeau praises to Canesfan like 10 years ago when the panthers drafted him. We are old
