Sens turned down NYR when they offered #1 for Tkachuk and 3. Then they turned down a one for one taking out the pick. I wouldn't make that trade either.
Sens have spent two years telling their fan base Tkachuk is the type of player the organization has never had and the type of player the team needs more of. Only to then turn around and move him while still on an ELC? He will be the leader of the team and a top power forward in the league for a decade... but trade him for another winger who while projected to be very good isn’t a generational type? From a Sens perspective it doesn’t make sense. Maybe if he was a C or RD. Funny thing is I heard this from a Western conference team that NYR are shopping him.

I’m not laughing at the fact that Ottawa would turn down the offer. They probably would. But the second offer is clearly fake. Nobody would offer #1 overall for a player plus #3, get turned down, and then offer #1 for just the player. Those two trade offers aren’t in the same stratosphere.

You have to do your due diligence on it, and depending on what happens with Zibenejad’s contract down the line, the Rangers window might actually be sooner rather than later. Based on the Staal trade and the Lundqvist buyout, as well as the Eichel rumors, it’s become quite clear they want to be contenders tomorrow.
that seems pretty dumb. Isn’t lafreniere supposed to be a once every 3-5 years type prospect? Who Ottawa could cost control for 2 extra seasons? Not like Ottawa will compete for anything. I’m questioning why the rangers think they are ready to compete next season and would want to do that deal. A top 6 forward on an ELC in a year or 2 will really help them try and build a contender. I guess it’s the rangers though and they never seem to accept rebuilding the right way.
Yes. My mom was born there and I still have family there. I became a bills/sabres fan as a youngster prior to the arrival of the Nashville sport franchises (titans, predators). Rangers have tried to pry Tkachuk from the Sens a few times apparently. It was asked by the Rangers and was flat out told not happening by Sens GM.

Teams need balance. Can’t have a bunch of skilled player without some jam. And if you can get that type of player especially in a top 6 role, even better. Look at Tampa as an example. Had to spend two firsts to get two physical type players. Helped them.
