He’s doing a terrible job of monetizing their assets, but bowman deserves all the credit for realizing that beating the oilers was a complete fluke.
Be interesting to see Tampa next year. They’ll still be contenders obviously but they won’t be just deeper and more talented top to bottom than everyone else in the league by a significant margin any more.
wow you mean you would take one of the most dynamic playmakers of the last decade? shocked anyways, gonna be weird not seeing toews on the hawks if they can find someone to take him
I doubt they can move him. They’d have to retain a ton of salary to the point it’s probably not worth the trade
they’d probably have to eat half his salary and get a 2nd or 3rd for him pretty dumb unless they truly just want to cut costs if they do, kane would be easy to move even with his contract
If Tampa keeps McDonough and the RFA’s, they will still be the favorites because no one will have better defense/goaltending. They will probably not win the Presidents trophy though because I see a lot of load management, assuming there are expanded rosters due to no AHL season, but it’ll benefit them in the long run.
I’m biased but Detroit is killing FA. Adding decent pieces on short term deals that’ll help keep the kids developing, all the while giving them a chance to flip the players for more assets down the road.
Seems to be helpful to have an anchor slowing you down if there are icebergs around I don't like this metaphor!
Not that I disagree w his take on this one but is there a bigger curmudgeon in hockey media than Lambert?
Everyone is over rated, Every contract is too long. I never noticed it until last year because he hates on Binnington so much for obvious reasons. But then I realize he does it for almost everyone
Well, I love analytics but he just basically voices what analytics say, without accounting for any nuance.
That shitty guy no one ever heard of that CBJ took in the first round signed a three year contract extension in the KHL.
It’s incredible that this league uses a cap and doesn’t take into account the income taxes. The whole point is to create a level playing ground and it does the exact opposite.
Do you complain how some large market teams have larger amateur scouting staffs than the entire front office of smaller market teams? Do you complain about older players taking home town discounts to play one last year in their hometown? Did you complain that because Montreal owned the catering company in the bubble, their team received a shit ton of extra benefits that the other teams weren’t getting? Do you complain that when the Canadian dollar is struggling it’s actually a huge net benefit to players on Canadian teams because they get exponentially more purchasing power out of their salary? there are dozens of benefits to being a large market/Canadian located team. Quit crying about income tax.
It’s not the same thing, the league created a system that helps some teams. What you mentionned have nothing to do with nhl rules. but I get your points, there is no reason for mtl to not be better.
I am not complaining about players not wanting to play in Winnipeg or Edmonton because these cities are not fun, I am complaining about a system created by a league that is supposed to be fair, but it’s not.
That’s not true at all. The nhl also created a system where teams can spend 10x what other teams do on off the ice stuff. This argument comes off as completely hypocritical every time because it intentionally ignores all of the built in advantages the large market teams have that aren’t eliminated by the CBA. You want the one disadvantage you face with the salary cap system eliminated but ignore all the benefits you do have.
You are telling me that some teams don’t spend one tenth of what another team spends because of nhl rules?
The rules don’t put a salary cap on front office staff. If you really want to create a league where everything is “equal” that’s one of the areas that would need to be changed. Again. You want the salary cap adjusted for income tax but don’t want other things made equal
And call me hypocritical as much as you want about this type of stuff but you know exactly where I am from, believe me I know the business side of hockey. I am very lucid about it. you can not equate a team having budget restrictions to a hard cap that makes teams have to spend 11 just to make it close to the 8 a player would get at a different place. It makes no sense But I am not really complaining. It’s not a reason why Canadian teams have been so mediocre for a while. There are plenty of advantages that these franchises should be able to maximize a lot more.
this guy went to Edmonton, New Jersey, Arizona and now Buffalo. No doubt in my mind that he will finish his career as a Quebec nordiques now
Wants to win and chooses Buffalo? That’s certainly an interesting choice. But he’s going to put up monster numbers with Eichel.
I think that each year the NHL should change the cap for every team based on what a three person panel suggests are the "coolest" cities, also factoring in best jerseys and weather
