I gotta ask, did Drury pull a power move here? He’s been the good soldier and not willing to move, but did he possibly let Dolan know he was going to look for GM gigs this offseason to force Dolan’s hand?
Rookie move from Dolan here, you gotta spread out the media coverage to get the back page multiple days
So these are the current execs that are President and GM: Lou Waddell Fletcher Poile Armstrong Drury He’s got more power than guys like Yzerman and BreisBois.
Throw out all that shit I said about the rangers looking dumb if they go after Wilson. Quinn has to feel like he's on borrowed time. Let the dogs loose! And the Rangers cant look any dumber than right now anyways.
They were the prototypical really talented young team that didn’t know how to win yet. They lost an absurd amount of games with 3rd period leads. Most of which were also losses in regulation. But largely, they were a top 16 team this year despite being the youngest in the league. Beyond that, they had the Panarin situation for a good portion of the season and their 1C was basically a skating lump of coal for 20 games after suffering from Covid. Not to mention they got hosed with Boston joining the division for a year. Everyone knew the rebuild was on course. The on-ice result was the issue, and could have easily been fixed with a coaching change.
who could forget when the oilers won all of those cups because jari kurri was running guys through the glass.
now you are really not talking smart, the oilers were built to protect their stars. The notion that they were a soft team is completely false not saying I agree and that it should still be like that but it’s what it is. Also there is a reason why the new oilers signed lucic when they did and kassian.
Its not because the Oilers beat his ass. None of those hard nosed Oilers were able to prevent Gretzky getting creamed. Goons aren't scared of other goons. Protecting your teammates isn't a thing. There was more goonery in the 70s, 80s, and 90s than there is now because that era was full of guys that were on the ice to fight. The Oilers wont because of their fast skilled players, the wings dominated for the same reason, the Hawks and Penguins too. The idea you have to physically dominate another team to win is patently false.
Im not saying you need goons, but you need the tough nose guys that can go into the corner and get the rebounds. Also on defense to protect the middle. That’s been a big reason for the Leafs not being able to win a playoff series.
lol if you don’t acknowledge that this is a strategy and it was even worse back then I don’t know what to tell you. Gretzky would be the first to tell you that these goons helped « creating space » for him i agree with you that this needs to change, but you are blind if you don’t think that these goons used to make a difference. And Wilson absolutely makes a difference. He is the best hockey player that can also play like a total scumbag and answer the bell. Players are scared of him.
Now with that, I 100% agree. Toughness isn't fighting, it isn't cheap shotting and really it isn't even hitting. Its going into the corners and making a play knowing you're going to get hit, going in front of the net and getting rebounds, thats not what Messier is talking about.
that’s how it should be and it’s getting there, but this league moves so slow. Just the fact that Colin Campbell is still on the nhl payroll should tell you everything you need to know
You know what created space for Gretzky, his amazing skating ability. Players just say the dumb shit they've been told to say and you still hear it repeated today. Hockey myths fucking drive me insane.
They gave up 1.9 goals against in the playoffs in 74-75 mostly because people were being punched in the face I guess. Also, Bobby Clarke in his prime had nothing to do with it
Well I guess all these hall of famers nhl players have no idea what they are talking about when they talk about intimidation. I will take the opinion of a few guys from the mainboard instead. Case closed.
And maybe he was so good because players were scared to get near him to get a rebound, they knew they were going to get slashed and beat up. again I am not saying it’s great but it was part of the game and it’s slowly being moved out
Lmao. Wyshynski and Lambert are going at it over Wilson on Talk Soup. They’re trying so hard not to get mad at each other but it’s not working. I know DeToxRox is listening rn
Dolans comments in the press release make two things quite clear... - He was afraid of losing Drury - He most definitely wants to get more involved with the hockey side of things FML
I loved that part. Lambert is so mad and Greg is a dick. As usual, Sean nailed it with his take though.
Greg was so mad about the red pill comment, but I don’t really get what he’s mad about considering Greg went into the episode looking to troll Lambert.
This is going to be the stupidest hockey game of all time, and it’s only going to reflect poorly on the Rangers
