the issue becomes that he has control and has to approve the trade. No one knows where he wants to end up. Probably costs the lightning a high pick or 2 next year and/or retaining some of the cap hit. I’m surprised he didn’t try and trade one of the tradable players first that teams actually want. Now all teams know he’s screwed. If he had moved killorn or palat he could have pretended he was in better shape when trying to trade Johnson.
Kinda surprised at Johnson clearing. Teams really want Tampa to get fucked if they’re letting a 25g/25a player go unclaimed.
I think it has a lot more to do with the fact that he was by far the worst lightning player in the playoffs and would have been scratched for the last 2 rounds if cooper didn’t like him so much. Players go through bad periods of form but the timing of him playing his worst hockey with everyone watching wasn’t ideal.
Declining 30 year old player making $5 mil for 4 more years. Red wings need talent bad and im glad we did not claim him. And I would be surprised if he is a 50 point player again
Would take way more than a 1st. And all indications are Seabrook will not be easy to waive his trade protections.
Yes. I think you would be lucky if any of those D next year ever reach Sergachev’s level. Plus you can can sign him for his prime years at a decent AAV.
johnson had 27 even strength goals in 2018-19. Palat was much worse than Johnson was this year in 2018-19 and was incredible in the playoffs. Johnson is also much better at center. If he’s playing as a center and on a 1st team PP unit he is definitely a 50 points scorer.
you aren’t getting him for a decent AAV though. Sergachev isn’t signing an offer sheet unless someone gives him 8-10 million a year long term. I still agree that I would go for him. I don’t think sergachev wants to leave and that will be a tougher sell but I’d take sergachev over a top 5 pick next year all day. A number 1 D is so hard to find.
I mean Sergachev is 22, producing 35 + points in a limited role compared to his teammates. 7X8 locks him up until he’s 29. You’re getting all his prime years for a song.
he had 38 even strength points in 2018-19. He isn’t good as a winger and bounced all around the lineup playing exclusively on the wing this year. He hasn’t really played center for the lightning in 2 seasons but he’s a lot better as a center. He’s just not one of our 4 best centers.
everyone knew the end would be rough, I didn’t expect it to be rough almost immediately. He won the Cup and just fell off a cliff
On the red wings he might and on the senators he would. Possibly on buffalo also. Not on any good teams but no good team is trading for him.
I dont think even the Wings would give him first PP time over Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha and Zadina. And no team is trading for him, let alone a good team. Every team just had a chance to get him for nothing and said no. Tampa is going to have to eat part of contract or give up an asset to dump him.
Long story short had problems with my iPhone after the latest update so cleared my cache. That logged me out for the first time in years and have no idea what my password is so tried to have an email sent to me to reset the password. Well it’s an email I don’t use anymore and have no idea what it is lol.
wow most avs people seemed to think they were just going dump Zadorov for a 2nd, this is a really good trade relative to expectations
A second seems aspirational to me for a 3rd pairing type of guy. But then again he got a decent middle 6 winger so maybe not
