I really didn't think a 4 minute PP up 2-0 was what turned the tide for the Kings tonight but whatever, missing 5 top 6 forwards but still a bad loss.
Meh, I don’t think he had nefarious intentions. It looked like he assumed Kero would be playing the puck and when he didn’t, his wires crossed and he still finished his check. Still suspension worthy but 10+ would be harsh. I would have said anywhere between 3-5 would have been fair. But in general I think the super long suspensions should be reserved for the repeat offenders and/or clear violent actions (i.e. not a hockey play)
The NHL should just permanently forget about the olympics and set-up a summer World Cup every two years.
the 1996 World Cup of hockey was probably the most fun I ever had watching hockey. Granted I was 15 so things are more fun when you’re a kid but still
The NHL will always do whatever has the worst optics, so I expect them to continue on with the ASG and continue to suspend people that don’t participate.
Is Stevie Y the first to publicly question if testing asymptomatic players is the best approach for the league going forward? I also saw this from Arash who is suddenly pretending like the existing protocols were put in place to protect society rather than league interests.
Yes this was quite dumb of him, but he’s just saying the quiet part out loud at this point. I believe Jerry Jones started rolling this ball down the hill, now everyone is just jumping on board.
No but it’s revenue so in fairness to the league, I am sure the PA views it as fairly important as well. I think the league is dumb enough to believe the ASG does more to promote the game than the Olympics would though.
I have the fondest memories of that tournament too. I think every 4 years is still fine just to make it a more rare event. Every 2 years is way too frequent to be disappointed by hideous USA jerseys
I have zero data to support who watches ASGs in general but I always considered them more a reward for existing fans and a showcase for young fans way more than anything to do with "promoting the sport" to new fans. Olympics totally different as that is integrating into a sporting event where you can promote to more people. Just different objectives.
oh hell yeah. thats part of what I mean- that its for existing hockey fan kids. Went in 1999(?) when it was in Tampa and it was the damn best.
the skills competition used to be the best part of it. It got stale as guys stopped giving a shit outside of hardest shot.
The shootout being introduced into games kind of ruined it since the breakaway challenge was one of the best parts until the novelty factor was lost. They tried to introduce that style point factor but it’s just kind of lame.
Anyone remember the year they did the goalie shootout portion and it was just goalies trying to hit an empty net across the entire ice and everyone kept missing?
Marek said it’s possible the league shifts to the series style scheduling, even if it means unbalanced schedules for teams.
Outside of temperature checks, how the hell would this work? Hockey players aren’t built to reveal injuries, why on earth would we expect them to report symptoms?
I’m sure some would hide mild symptoms but from the league’s perspective it’s probably preferred to shutting down for a couple of months (especially if the NBA doesn’t have to).
Larkin knocked over a guys beer during warmups so he had one of the equipment guys give the dude a 20 lol
As much as I feel like Arizona's current ownership don't deserve a winning team, I do kind of enjoy watching a bad team going complete fire-sale on their roster and just building a nuclear stockpile of picks. Assuming they deal Chychrun they could end up with > 16% of all the picks in the first two rounds this year.
I just don’t see how we can put together a top offer since Seider, Raymond, and Edvinsson would be off the table.
It was unfortunately inevitable. IOC should have woken the fuck up and moved the tournament to a country where it could happen. The combo of Omicron and the 5 week quarantine mandate from China made this an impossible task.
