Because the guy writes for a fanblog that has credentials. It's not a paid gig/job so he wasn't technically fired. He just doesn't get the benefit of their credential anymore and won't contribute to their site. The quotes were my attempt to not even dignify him with the label of "hockey writer"
I saw the family posted a statement and I can't make myself read it. Two brothers dying in an accident the day before their sister's wedding is one of the saddest fucking things I've ever heard.
Also, dangers drivers- both drunk and sober- are the scum of the earth. Driving like a fucking idiot is so prevalent it's insane.
One of my neighbors had interactions with Gaudreau when he (Gaudreau) was a kid and posted this on his FB. Context added in parenthesis: 25 years ago I used to make balloons for Johnny Hockey and his brother (neighbor is a balloon artist). Their dad Guy ran the rink in our town and coached Buddy and Derek (neighbor's kids) in clinics and camps. He was a rink rat and hung around at dad’s work and any time there was an open sheet of ice him and his brother were on it. Those kids used to go into the pro-shop and torment Derek when they were bored and he was trying to work. Any time you saw him play it was always clear he was the best player on the ice but we’d shrug our shoulders and lament that he was strikingly small… he’ll never “make it”. Was always such a great story about how much he accomplished given his size. He never forgot where he came from. We always were so proud of our hometown hero. I can’t imagine what his poor family is going through. Just heartbreaking.
its at just over $225,000 currently https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-madeline-and-baby-tripp-after-tragedy
Realistically I’m sure Johnny’s wife would’ve helped them because I’m sure his contract will still be paid out through insurance but it’s cool that she won’t have to think about any of that now
that is not the point, the gesture is the point the money was never the issue here or they would give more than a thousand
Jose Fernandez was high on coke, drunk, and piloting a boat at excessive speeds late at night. It’s definitely a weird comparison to make.
And both are young sports stars who died tragically young. Not weird at all, even if Fernandez was “at-fault” for his death while Gaudreau was not.
His death can still be a tragedy to his family and the community even if it was his fault. This isn’t complicated.
The video of this guy at the first court appearance is something Sorry guy, you don’t get to go home and sleep it off
It’s honestly incredible to see the memorial for a player who left in free agency on bad terms 2 years ago.
