We will worry about three years from now three years from now.
9.5 I think
He’s two years away from UFA.
If this drops the market for guys like JT Miller or Pierre Luc Dubois, I’m all for it.
hell get an extension at the end of this season coming season
it sucks seth Jones is only the second worst thing Bowman did during his time with the Blackhawks
He has to want to stay in Ottawa.
true but players don’t often turn down 65-70 mil to take a one year deal
He can take a 1 year 9 million deal then cash in on the open market while not playing in Ottawa.
unless he has a shitty year or has a major injury that causes him to miss a large chunk of his contract year.
FWIW Hagel was incredibly valuable partly due to how cheap his contract is. Also had Tampa getting 2 picks back the other way.
Looks like they deleted it, but it's still up in my tweetdeck
Ehhh. He’s gonna get paid regardless. Either way we won’t need to wait long to find out.
We have a great young core. He will fit right in and be a key player. Good start to the summer.
im a very long time listener/reader of theirs
With what assets?
Where do the senators fit into the Atlantic this year.
Would be a stupid trade by Ottawa anyway. A rebuilding team giving up assets to sign a 28 year old 1 year away from UFA?
I think we had this convo before. All my friends listen to it, so sometimes I will just to get looped into what theyre texting about.
They're pretty funny. They hate everything.
They just did something similar for debrincat. They think they can win now. That’s foolish imo.
what’s your point? They should not try because you would not want to live in Ottawa?
They should be looking at their timeline, looking at the other teams in the Atlantic and realizing now isn’t the time to make a win now move because debrincat doesn’t put them ahead of Tampa, Boston, Florida, or Toronto.
True, but with Debrincat, if he doesn't want to stay they could trade him again and get most/all of their return back. With Weegar you run the risk of giving up assets, missing the playoffs again, and then him walking for nothing in a year.
Or really anywhere close, tbh.
i get that but debrincat is what, 2 years older than their core? It’s risky but Ottawa is not getting a guy like that in free agency. Now is the time to start moving into a team that can take a run at making the playoffs, at least show some progress. Maybe he will love it and find a perfect fit hockey wise and will be happy to stay, who knows.
not a terrible move as far as I am concerned. Especially in a weak draft.
This. Sports fans brains have been broken to thinking that trying to improve and win games is bad. Good luck finding another 24 year old 40 goal scorer anywhere else.
I can buy the argument that it’s a good risk where if it doesn’t work they can get some of their assets back.
I am simply pretty firm in my belief that their ceiling is 5th in the Atlantic and they run a very high risk of Debrincat saying he’s taking his QO and going to market in July of 24.
Ask Vancouver how doing similar things worked out for them the last several years.
not even close to being comparable. Vancouver had a ton of dead weight on their team. And they signed more old guys to try to help
I’m still waiting for the first argument about how this move puts them in the conversation with the top 4 teams in the Atlantic.
They are similar. They had a couple good young pieces and thought they were ready to win now, and they absolutely weren't- so they just ended up digging themselves a deeper hole and extended the length of their rebuild.
It’s also probable that Ottawa saw what they could get at 7 and did not mind moving that pick
digging themselves a bigger hole by getting a 24 years old 40 goal scorer? Who did Vancouver trade for or sign?
If they aren't good enough to make a serious run, (Which I don't think they are) then yes, they are digging themselves a deeper hole.
The worst situation you can be in is an average team without cap space.
2-3 years from now this move definitely moves them into that discussion if they resign debrincat and if they don’t make stupid mistakes. You think that every team not in the top 4 should just tank until they finally hit the jackpot?
that I agree, we just disagree on the impact that this move potentially could have for the sens. It’s not a slam dunk but at some point you need to start moving in the right direction plus this trade is a clear win for Ottawa. There is a 20% chance that the package they just sent to Chicago could become better value than debrincat.
Debrincat is 2 years from UFA. They don’t have 2-3 years to impress Debrincat. They have 1-2.
From cap dump to debrincat
i was assuming he was staying and some of the teams at the top of the Atlantic will start to decline
Right. If he re-signs I’m loud wrong. But if he doesn’t, this trade is a big L for the senators. The math doesn’t make sense to me because I don’t see debrincat making enough of a difference to put that team in a position to win.
seems not good
it’s a valid point, I think it’s worth the risk
#2 and NJ's unprotected 2023 1st was the lowest I wanted so I'm having a bad day
