Loved watching Rick Rypien play. Even had him as my avatar for a while. His energy and tenacity was something to behold. And despite his diminutive size, he’d fight anyone.

Then he killed himself when he was 27, and that entirely flipped the script. I felt awful about actively cheering on his fearlessness and fighting. And knowing that he and others like him are/were expected to do that same shit every time they skated out there for a paycheck or else get cut.

as an EPL fan I’d rather have the late nights on the east coast than the ridiculously early kickoffs on the west coast.

Can someone tell me what the rat tossing pertains to? It’s been an ongoing theme, but I haven’t figured out what it relates to.

I originally assumed it was for all things Marchand related, but that’s clearly not the case.

 

There’s good videos out there. Short story is in 1996 Scott mellanby killed a rat in the locker room before a preseason game or early season game. With the same stick he then scored 2 goals.

vanbiesbrouck told the media later it was a rat trick. Several games pass and the story gets in the local media as a small thing. Mellanby scores a goal in another game and as a joke someone threw a rubber rat towards him.
