I’m hoping Chabot plays fewer minutes this season. Sens D is deeper than it’s been since the days of Redden/Chara/Phillips/Volchenkov. DJ ran our PP with two D on the first unit. Don’t see that much anymore.
Points for Bedard this year? I want to say PPG, but it's so rare for D+1 players step into the league and have a bunch of success nowadays. Haven't really seen it since McDavid/Matthews, and the Blackhawks' supporting cast is notably worse than those two players had at the time. Bold-ish predictions -Vegas has a bit of a cup hangover. They make the playoffs, but they're a noticeably worse team than last season. -Seattle wins the west Not predicting it, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Fantilli wins the Calder over Bedard. If he's on a line with Laine and on the first unit with Gaudreau, he'll probably pile up points.
his o/u for goals is 31.5 this year. Matthews had 40 and crosby had 39 in their first seasons I believe. I think he goes over
Seeming like the Canes are going to roll out a defense group of Slavin - Burns Skjei - Pesce Orlov - Chatfield/Deangelo and it’s pretty outrageous. We’re going to be Blue Like Bombing like never before.
Eiserman to BU. Doubtful Celebrini plays more than 1 year of college, but man that would be awesome to see the potential first and second picks of a draft (Who are apparently also best friends) play on the same line together.
I remember there was a stretch of a few years where the Islanders would have like 3 of the top 4 guys in hits every year because whoever did the scoring for them gave a hit for any time someone grazed shoulders with another player. the dumbest stat.
Plus the idea of celebrating something that only happens because the other team has the puck is absurd
Panthers were notorious for similar during the first luongo years. They were getting caved in most nights, but any shot that went near the goal was counted and sometimes double counted.
I don’t think the window to compete stays open that long, probably the next three years. There’s not the depth coming up through the farm system like there used to be for close to a decade(obviously that’s the price of trying to win now). I don’t want to overpay Stamkos or Hedman on long term deals, but they’re guys that have been huge pieces to the success and have been loyal to the franchise. Both guys are likely open to discounts to stay and try to keep winning here. Some initial conversations should’ve already been had with Stamkos to let his agent know what they think they can give him to continue to compete and go from there.
That is a brutal loss for the Lightning. They have been able to stay an elite team while their depth deteriorates because of Vasi. Him missing 2+ months is going to be BRUTAL on them unless they can go get a goalie who can be league average beause Jonas Johannson is one of the worst backups in the league. If he is their starter, WOOF.
Obvious question is when did this pop up because the off-season would’ve been a nice time to get it taken care of.
I'd guess it was recent becasue vasi is the one guy on that team they can't stash on LTIR and survive.
TB is absolutely find a way to land Hellebyuck. Vas will just sit out the season and come back healthy next season.
Yeah he’s the one guy they couldn’t afford to lose long term. Back in 18-19 they were so stacked that it didn’t matter Domingue had to step in for a month+. That’s not the case anymore. I’m assuming they’ll keep a close eye on the waiver wire, they can’t go into the season with a questionable backup and AHL guy as the tandem. Hopefully they can tread water in the standings until he gets back, it’s definitely hit to the playoff chances.
The organization definitely doesn’t deserve Bedard but at least the world will actually get to watch him
I'm gonna disagree. It's a pre-season game which have always been treated like glorified scrimmages. No need to blow someone up high that is in a vulnerable position. Especially when you are a borderline AHL guy who is in camp to be a body.
I get the point but ultimately this isn’t the all star game. There are guys who are not just fighting for NHL jobs, but AHL jobs as well. Once Stone steps on the ice the onus is on him to protect himself. Otherwise he should just tell the team he’s good until the regular season starts. Or in the case of Stone, when the playoffs start. If the debate turns into the fact the preseason is far too long and camp rosters are way too big, I would definitely agree.
I get it. But blowing up someone high and a little late isn't how you make the squad in 2023. Everyone knows you can hit/fight at this point. That's just me.
that shit will absolutely get you noticed, in some orgs more than others. if a guy is a bottom 6 grinder whose value comes in being a physical presence, what is he supposed to do? it wasn't a dirty hit. Stone is being a baby.
Who makes the rules on what’s necessary for a preseason game, every game I’ve seen has been chippy. They’re just playing hockey out there
Was good with the Zuccarello contract. But this contract will not age well. Not sure how Guerin gave that much money and that long of a contract to Foligno coming off of a down year, and it isn't like his game is one that will age all that well.
I don’t get extensions like these a year out. Especially when the cap is finally about to increase. Keep as much flexibility as possible in case a whale shakes free and has interest. Nobody is banging down the door of Marcus foligno at 12:01 on July 1, 2024. If you want him to feel good, get a handshake deal on the books on total money that you adjust if you need with more term if you need some extra cap space up front
i am not confident at all, he looks lost out there.Cooley was the best player in that draft, mtl overthought it again and went for the bigger guy since they are so small. The tkachuk mistake but in reverse. Just take the best player available all the time. Cooley/tkachuk or kotkaniemi/slaf? I think we all know the answer i also do not think guhle will become the great defenseman that habs fans and media are seeing. The guy is probably pretty close to his ceiling already.
Well said. I think there’s still time but already seeing others passing him. Shit drafting especially at the top of the draft can kill a rebuild. The Habs do have a very good stable of young D. Those can take time to develop but they do have a legit 5-10 kids who could become regulars in the blue line.
Sens management is the 12 year old playing franchise mode on NHL 23 who can't figure out why he can't keep signing players, realizes there is a thing called the salary cap, and instead of trading someone to make space, just turns the cap off and keeps playing.
