I cannot grasp his game. I always compared him to Kane but a little better, his shot makes him way better now
I feel like people didn't talk about this neutral zone play enough last week from Bedard. What the fuck
and he immediately moved into a spot to get the puck back, it’s 2 moves ahead. I love watching players like him. Thanks for posting it, I barely watch the games. I am lacking time he still reminds me of Kane but even better which is a generational talent. Kane is underrated imo
I went down a pre-lockout youtube highlight hole over the summer at one point and looked up his stats and was surprised. I just remembered him always falling apart in the playoffs.
Two more goals from Lafreniere tonight, including the game tying goal with 11 seconds left. Also had the shootout winner.
He acted recklessly and it led to the death of someone. I don’t know what should happen here because it seems extremely gray, but I’m not shocked he was charged. I wouldn’t have been shocked either way.
I haven't watched the play. but this seems... insane? can someone who watched the play / snuff film talk about his role in it?
Apparently they had a welcome back ceremony for him today too? He got a standing ovation at the arena but didn't play
It's really hard to describe. The guy who hit Johnson (cant remember his name). Was trying to cut behind another player to make a play on johnson who was trailing. He lost his edge and his other leg came flying up and kicked Johnson in the neck. You can tell it was just a reaction to use that other leg as a counter balance to prevent falling. But also - if youre not familiar w the Hockey or watch a lot of it, it's definitely something that a novice could perceive as intentional.
was going to say - I wonder how much this happening in a country where most people know next to nothing about hockey affected this decision.
I’m sure they’ll argue an aggressor’s skate coming up that high on a hit should never not be seen as reckless, regardless of how random and variable hockey is. And that will be hard for even the most ardent hockey supporter to dispute.
What should happen here? It was a freak accident. They happen all the time. Someone doesn’t always have to be held accountable for everything
If a freak accident due to recklessness leads to the death of an individual, that can be grounds for manslaughter in many places. I’m not arguing it wasn’t a freak accident. It was. I’m not arguing intent. I don’t think there was any intent to injure in any way. But was it reckless? Yeah I think it was. A player’s skate shouldn’t come up to head height on attempted checks. I think the action he took was reckless. Is that grounds for manslaughter? I really don’t know either way. It’s not an easy cut-and-dry situation
Just make OT longer or make it 10 minutes and if it’s tied then no one gets the extra point. Incentivize the scoring but I could argue pulling the puck back is trying to score when you are trying to create a rush. A 3 person cycle just isn’t as effective.
They're on 3 millimeter pieces of sharpened metal on top of a sheet of ice. Was this reckless by Jack Hughes, or did he just slip?
Jack Hughes wasn’t actively attempting to hit an opposing player in a way completely unnatural to the sport in that clip. Again, I’m not arguing he meant to get his leg *that* high. But I do think he intended to use his leg in a roundhouse manner to impede the offensive player’s movement. That’s an action that’s both very reckless and not normal to the game of hockey. The fact it led to the opposing player’s death is obviously a freak accident and unbelievably unlucky, but those things don’t negate the potential for manslaughter. It wasn’t simply a matter of slipping. And a clearer replay of it also shows it wasn’t a result of contact from a different player either. Nobody forced him to make that action but himself. The fact there’s a video of him making a similar hit a decade prior, and no video of anyone else ever making a similar hit, is also fairly damning. Recklessness and how unnatural what he did is to the sport will be tough to argue against.
Chara driving Pacioretty´s head in a piece of metal was a clearer attempt at killing someone than this. I wonder what would’ve happened had pacio died.
I actually think that one would be easier to throw out, simply because players getting hit into the end of boards/stanchions happens pretty regularly in hockey. Sure, they’re unfortunate cases whenever they happen, but they’re still a somewhat common occurrence. There was nothing common or “normal hockey play” about this, which makes it far more gray and tougher to defend.
yeah that makes sense, plus the arena design had a crucial flaw. I meant more in terms of intent but it is probably way too hard to prove that chara wanted to hurt him even though it is really obvious
