That was an insane game last night. It’s going to be interesting to see if the NHL can build off of this attention
last night was great proof for the ability of the best players in the world to hit hard but not hit dirty
Bang up job by Canadian management lol Top Canadian goalies by saving percentage 2024-25: 1. Logan Thompson 0.921 2. Darcy Kuemper 0.918 3. Mackenzie Blackwood 0.916 4. Jake Allen 0.910 5. Cam Talbot 0.905 6. Joel Hofer 0.903 7. Calvin Pickard 0.901 8. Adin Hill 0.900 9. Stuart Skinner 0.900 10. Sam Montembeault 0.897 11. Jordan Binnington 0.897
If Canada/Finland go to OT, we could see Sweden pulling their goalie in regulation in a tie game due to needing solely a regulation win. Could be a fun time.
Something interesting on 32 thoughts: Sweden's head coach apparently said that team North America in 2016 drastically changed the way a lot of federations thought about international hockey. (Just to jog some memories, that team won 2/3 games and probably outplayed Russia in the one game they lost) Sweden used to focus on strict defensive systems and counterattacking, and then the North American team took a bunch of super young, talented players and just kinda rolled the puck onto the ice and they were really good.
Bummer Jarvis is the extra, but not upset about him avoiding injury today. I’d think Canada could use his 2 way game tho.
Welp any hope of a Finland upset is pretty much gone already. Bring on USA v. Canada round 2. What we all wanted anyway.
I mean Finland was always going to be the least talented team in the tournament. Then they got decimated by injuries. I'm fine with today being a dud so we can have a fantastic final on Thursday with the two top teams in the tournament.
Finland’s total lack of quality defenseman is glaring. They can barely get the puck to the red line. Our blue line is magnitudes better.
Their #1 defenseman in this tournament is Nikko Mikkola I love the guy, but he's a solid #3 defenseman.
Yeah, you could argue losing Heiskanen hurt Finland more than any other possible player in the tournament. Finland has one elite defenseman and every other country has multiple to dampen the blow.
They have some of the better defensive defenseman in the NHL, but you can't win a tournament like this without guys who can create offense.
This, they are playing to lose 4-1 at this point. I could see them try something if they get a PP, but even that is unlikely.
I mean when you lose half of your top 6, you're gonna have a bad time. Heiskanen, Ristolainen, and Hakanpaa.
Still not exactly sure the 4 Nations title matters as much as just seeing USA vs Canada at the level of effort we saw the other night. This thing could’ve been a best of 7 USA vs Canada
