Actually you know what, McDavid playing against his hometown team might have scored 20 goals in the finals
I still don’t think Edmonton should feel panicked overall. The stars can still come out hot game 4. But the one area I’d be nervous is if goaltending is moving in opposite directions. Bob is on his game even in the 2 losses. Skinner has been mostly pretty good (game 1 ot early was a highlight) but doesn’t look nearly as locked in. He didn’t even look competitive on most of those goals. Panthers have dumped pucks into the net uncontested like 3 or 4 times. Gonna be interesting how they develops. I just like how Edmonton has to sit with that for an extra day off on the road now.
That was pretty milquetoast getting blown out stuff. Remove the bias. Florida has done the same shit this postseason and you haven’t been calling for 10 games for intent to injure on them.
Would be fine if a 10-min misconduct in the last half of the third period leads to a 10-min misconduct to start the next game.
Gonna be kinda funny if Toronto ends up giving Florida their only close series and then tears down their roster anyway.
“Try to inure” was probably strong on my part but I was posting in response to a couple of the plays. One was the Bouchard chop on Verhaeghe which ironically Kane got the 2+10 on the tail end for. And then another I forget .. maybe Walman. But I get these situations where guys are going to bait into fights (thinking Florida vs TB a coupe years ago) but I just didn’t like the harder stick stuff when guys aren’t looking. that all said and I don’t like at all when Florida does this either but teams shouldn’t be punished for blowing out the other. Being up 4-5 doesn’t mean it’s open season on your best players. In football they pull starters but hockey you can’t cut your bench in half for a whole period. Should try to address it.
Hockey is the only sport where players can physically skirmish during stoppages in play, and they won’t get rid of it presumably because they think it drives ratings/fans to the sport. Get rid of that with penalties being called and 95% of all the things you’re referencing immediately go away. But #hockeyguys are too scared and/or too proud to do it. Hockey culture is the issue here.
Probably not the best messenger here. He took 2 penalties early. First period penalties were 4 for each team including Lundell only one getting called for that end of period scrum (he earned it). Then He got his 2+10 for poking his stick towards a guy on the ice. Not exactly toeing the line. yeah I’m sure he’s focused on the calls they didn’t get that could have been called, but in a game where you spend the entire time once it was 4-1 to go into “send a message” mode I’m not sure what he’s looking to accomplish here. bigger issue is the oilers power play generates nothing when they had their early chances.
Right or wrong, Stanley Cup games are going to be "managed" to hell. Oilers weren't complaining about game management when they got the only PP of overtime in game 1 due to puck over glass. Game management kept them alive early in the game last night but like you said, they could only capitalize once. Then when you completely goon it up, of course the penalty calls are going to be one sided. Refs aren't going to even up calls when you are slashing whoever you can find after every whistle.
he got a penalty for a cross check that happens every time the puck is in play and Marchand hitting himself in the face
I’m saying the NHL created this environment, and there’s always going to be one team that succeeds in pushing that environment to its absolute brink. The Panthers are that team currently. But it’s not their fault, because someone else would likely be doing it if they weren’t. The league is the issue.
yup. And McDavid grabbed Forsling's stick to trip himself and drew the call. Both teams were trying to game the refs all night. This is the league that the NHL created with game management officiating... BINGO. Before the Panthers, the Lightning were the ones gaming the system better than everyone else. They were the absolute kings of willingly taking the first couple penalties of the game knowing that the refs wouldn't call anything else on them until the power plays were evened up.
The Kings were also awesome at it for a few years stretch Water will go where you allow it to. The league needs to regulate it better
Marchand absolutely did that but Kane also got his stick close enough from behind him. Marchand didn’t exactly have to go far to draw the call.
Oh man cooper and his pressers too. Just always managing those things in their favor. Knew the system they were in and got the most of it
yup. Nothing would make me happier than a league that allows the skill to flourish in the playoffs like it does in the regular season. Panthers built a team that was elite at that. Scored 4+ goals a game, won the presidents trophy and all that. Got swept in round 2 by Tampa who kept gooning it up to negate the speed and skill of the Panthers off the rush. So they adjusted to a style that is allowed to thrive in the playoffs and are 2 wins away from b2b cups. Adapt or die.
Hutson gets 165/191 first place votes for the Calder. Deserved winner, but I’m shocked the voting wasn’t closer. Celebrini was nuts this year and he didn’t even get 2nd.
early adopter of analytics and a Leafs fan. Was one of the more "controversial" people on hockey twitter because he'd call out how bad players like Phaneuf and Ceci were so he would get fate follwed by Leafs fans. Then the Leafs got good and he started tweeting from his feels rather than his head and he became hated by everyone. Not that surprising. Playing for the Habs puts a finger on the scale in a massive way.
I keep forgetting to post that. Absolute insantity. reigning b2b GM of the year is about to trade an elite 25 year old winger so he can re-sign 33 year old Mikael Granlund. Those are the types of decisions that get you fired a year or 2 down the road.
Same fine for punching a guy as squirting water at another one, hilarious process— CJ Fogler (@cjzero.bsky.social) 2025-06-10T18:22:56.911Z
Or you can say $5,000 more fine for squirting water than knocking a goalie into concussion and out for a series but whatever floats your boat
it's not a more or less thing. you either get fined $5k or you get fined nothing. it's their only option.
Didn’t ohhai say that his second penalty was actually Marchand hitting himself then embellishing? Haven’t seen a replay
Anticipate and get out of the way. Find a lane and reverse pivot out of there. Was probably Charron’s worst game of his career last night. The funny thing is when they get indignant when a player hits them with a puck in this situation. Klingberg could’ve and in hindsight should’ve.
I don’t know what you mean as middle of the ice, but yes, refs pivot out of that situation all the time. It’s like he had a brain fart in that moment.
Slash and than a grab followed by an assist by the ref. However don't think those were playoff penalties.
You have to remember that CF is an ardent supporter of game management and doesn’t want refs to call things by the book.
It looks like he pushes Kane’s stick up but Kane also put his stick in an awkward spot from behind him.
