I’d say those two players were different. Chia showed up on a PTO and played well. Teams aren’t going to give that guy a year later a 4 year deal. Maroon...from what I remembered they just didn’t have confidence in him going forward? Hence they moved on from him. Lots of players would score 40 points with them. But nobody is going to pay a 20 point UFA $13M over 4 years to come to Edm. So you have to pay your own players.
Should also add that Kassian with 13 goals so far is shooting double his percentage over the 4 years prior.
My thing is, what if McDavid tears an ACL and misses an entire season. What are you paying Kassian for at that point?
Then you let him walk, let Yamamoto and his peanuts ELC play with McDavid, and try to use that extra 2 million to lure someone better.
Fair enough. But they’ve found someone that can play consistently and is willing to play in northern Alberta.
Like who? Guys don’t go to market anymore. You want to lure someone but the reality is you are then overpaying someone else. A someone you haven’t had the chance to get to know, so you can’t be sure they’ll be a fit.
Can we just get a line brawl right away. I know its not going to happen but I would love it. I feel really stupid that I had no idea Jake DeBrusk father is the color commentator for Oiler games on SportsNet
Edmonton is in southern Alberta both geographically and culturally. When you’re in northern Alberta, you know it. It’s not some small town, it’s 1.5M and Canada’s second fastest growing metro area. You’re acting like dozens of middling NHLers wouldn’t take a small pay it to play on McDavid’s wing. Instead they overpay for Zach Kassian lol. His statistical prime was 7 years ago.
Tkachuk gets the best of Kassian again, ruins an offensive zone face off for McDavid. Even though Kassian “won” that fight he didn’t land a single punch anywhere but his helmet.
He’s been excellent defensively this season. He certainly is the guy who is “next” to break through and get his first Selke.
Always been a fan of him. If it wasn’t for mono he’d have gone higher in his draft. Heard a couple people say Byfield could be like Couturier in the pros.
No I didn’t. He was never going to be a star but always a solid #2. And Bonk would have been a better player if Jacko hadn’t beaten his offensive game out of him. Edit: tbh I don’t really remember. He’s certainly been a very solid and underrated pro.
Christian Wolanin would have made the Sens out of camp but suffered a major shoulder injury. He’s been skating but finally able to take off the non contact jersey today.
Always good to add some spice to the games. Glad Tkachuk stepped up and did the right thing. He didn’t win the fight but he didn’t get tuned up either.
this team stinks and the franchise currently stinks. We have like 2.5 good players. Everything is awful. What's new?
Been a very tough season for the Sharks. Even tho as a Sens fan I want them to finish as low in the standings as possible I don’t wish to accomplish that thru guys getting injured.
how they did not see that coming a mile away is baffling edit-obviously not talking about the injury but their old team breaking down. They went all in with a pair of nine and lost.
They traded away their first for Kane and then for Karlsson ( plus 2017 1st rounder Norris in the EK deal ). Went all in on these guys. Had Wilson seen what was coming, he would have moved some assets and not made those trades. He could have retooled and had the team ready for another run. Now he’s had to double down on these guys but the farm system is thin after those trades. Hard to fill in the holes.
I saw this on Facebook and got a chuckle. Montreal has announced they will not try and win Stanley Cup #25 to honor Kobe and stay with 24
I always thought Hughes would have benefited from a year in college. He’s just not strong enough for the pro game yet.
