The Devils are in kind of a weird spot to me. They won 31 games last year, but between getting Hall back after he missed 50 games and adding Subban and Hughes, I think that gives them at least 10 more wins next year. They're not really in position to tank again. Do they try to make one more move before next season and just go for it? They have the cap space as well.
From everything I’ve heard (albeit second hand via someone who works for them), they have a ton they plan on still doing this offseason. Sounds like they’re making a push to be a playoff contender immediately.
Wouldn't be surprised if they just pull a blues and go with Blackwood next year even though they're paying a vet. He was pretty good despite playing for a bad team in 25 games.
Sounds like they’re looking for another forward, hopefully an RFA like Labanc or Gusev that’s getting squeezed out. They’ll be really young with Ty Smith and Jesper Boqvist joining Hughes as rookies. Blackwood is still technically a rookie too. Maybe a vet UFA on a short term deal like Zucc or Pavelski? Idk
It seems like the Blackhawks are adding all the guys I used to like in my dynasty league who never quite turned out like expected
Gustfsson and hopefully Seabrook... Maybe both in the same deal along with a prospect to unload that awful contract.
I would start the offer with Barrett and Mitchell and entertain anyone else not named Boqvist or Dach
If ever there was a time for an offer sheet, you'd have to think every other team with cap space would be lining up to get a legit 1C for 8.4 and only have to give up a 1st, 2nd, and 3d.
The guy just paid 3.8 million cash for a 1st round pick and is now doing this? Something doesn’t add up
explanation I read: If the Canucks were to qualify him, it's likely they end up signing a 4m+ deal in arbitration, a contract value Hutton is not worth. By not giving him a qualifying offer, the Canucks can seek instead to re-sign him to a lower cost deal. This move makes perfect sense with context, which a lot of tweets have left out today.
The Sens need 4 top 4 OA picks. They are brutal and their prospects are too. Don’t think there’s a team with more bleak present or future. Sorry 34
They aren’t rooting for their team to perpetually suck. Just in a year where they know they aren’t making the playoffs to root for them to have the best possible outcome outside of making the playoffs. Nothing wrong with rooting for the best for your team.
Not to mention his biggest question mark came to fruition this year. An elite guy’s value is decreased significantly every game he doesn’t play.
Yeah- they'd rather take a chance of him walking than not reach a deal before arbitration, and then have to pay him 4. He's not very good but he played 22 minutes last year, so they'd lose out in arbitration and have to overpay.
I know he's not good, but they should've gotten at least a draft pick for him at the trade deadline though. The Canucks D corp is just not good and by no means playoff caliber.
