    Marner is a better defensive player. Plays short handed and everything. Matthews is a generational type player. He’s just got to tune up his defensive game.

    I don’t think it’s controversial to say Marner > Matthews or Matthews > Marner. Matthews a much better goal scorer, Marner better at most other things.

    and I couldn’t care less about Canadian hockey so no bias here.

    As they should. Second best country at producing NHL talent and these kids play together all year (many for many years together) whereas in Canada they are playing for their respective CHL teams and occasionally get together for tourneys.

    Matthews is good defensively, though. The only reason people think he wasn't this year is because he was -9, because Andersen had a horrible year behind him when he was on the ice, with an 88.8% ES save percentage. Wasn't because he faced a ton of high danger chances behind him, either.
