Ni No Kuni

I've been thinking about picking it up. Heard good things

 

I picked it up after playing the demo, have not been able to start it yet. Really looking forward to this upcoming weekend for my time to do so.

 

I'm about 2 hours in. Liking it so far

Same, except I don't use Swain's starter.

 

I was hosed by unexpected weekend trip with the wife. Delayed until this beautiful 3 day weekend. What familiars are recommended when I get going?

 

It will take a while to get them all, but I'm mainly using the ones that garnetsamurai is using. All ones that each character start with are pretty good

 

Sounds good. How far along is everyone and how often do the "challenging" battles come up?

 

I'm about 35 hours in, but I've been dicking around a lot. The challenging stuff all depends on where you are at. Once you get a ship and dragon, you can pretty much find people that are way above your level all around the world. I didn't have too much trouble fighting many of the bosses so far, but you just have to approach them the right way. Esther is a dumb bitch that dies a lot, though.

 

Ha, I am a big time side explorer, especially in RPG's, so I see myself logging in numerous hours without advancing too much story at a time. Really looking forward to this now.

 

Well, I'm going to resurrect this thread and jump back into this game after a long layoff playing other games.
Did anyone ITT finish the game? How long did it take you?
IIRC I was just getting into the volcano when I stopped.

I finished it all the way through and enjoyed every minute of it. I believe I clocked in about 80-85 hours, it has been a while, but that was with near 100% completion with all side quests and items. Just read they are officially making part 2, cannot wait.

 

The only disappointing part of this game is

Don't open if you haven't beaten it.

Its all real instead of being a coping mechanism for his mother's death. Truly thought it would have been better had it ended like that.

 

That would have been interesting.

 

I was 100% confident it was true until it was made obvious it wasn't, and I'm still unsure. And I kind of think less of the game because it wasn't true.
