I get the feeling that this game will be ground breaking, and will pave the way for other, big budget games that use its mechanics to awesome effect.

    Kind of like Shenmue.

I agree but I don't think the game itself will be that great. Groundbreaking and will pave many ways, for sure.

Seriously, what the fuck is this game about? I tell people about how impressive the scale of this game is, but when they ask what the game actually is, I have no fucking idea. Fly around in space ships and explore? I'm totally impressed by the creativity and massive scale of the game, but if it was just created to show what games are capable of now graphically and size-wise, it's probably going to be a flop. However, it may be the first step in truly impressive games with massive playing areas without load times and infinite ways to accomplish objectives. I see the potential, but I'm still apprehensive.

Feel like it needs a better form of multi player, just flying around making discoveries might be fun for a couple of days, but if it's repetitive, who cares how big the world is?

I like the idea of a massive universe but I want to be able to interact with other players, too. Not being able to drop a pin to the seventh largest planet in the Quardox Galaxy and have a meetup will be frustrating.

Definitely developed for PS4, likely will be a port to PC as the studio is so small, I can't imagine they have two full teams working on the two versions.

No Man’s Sky Coming to PS4 in August
[IMG]Posted by Sean Murray on May 27, 2016 // Founder, Hello Games

Hello, Sean Murray from Hello Games here, working extremely hard on our game, No Man’s Sky.

The game really has come together, and it’s such an incredible relief. As we sit an play it now, and as I watch playtesters every day, I can finally let myself get excited. We’re actually doing this.

However, as we approached our final deadlines, we realized that some key moments needed extra polish to bring them up to our standards. I have had to make the tough choice to delay the game for a few weeks to allow us to deliver something special.

After a short delay, No Man’s Sky will launch in North America on August 9, in Europe August 10, and in the UK August 12.

    [IMG][IMG]

We understand that this news is disappointing. Making this game is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but we are so close now, and we’re prepared to make the tough choices to get it right.

The universe of No Man’s Sky is incredibly vast. More than you can imagine. This is a type of game that hasn’t been attempted before, by a smaller team than anyone would expect, under an intense amount of expectation.

And despite all of that, development is genuinely going well. This is the hardest working, most talented team I’ve ever worked with, and I’m so proud of what we’re doing. For all our sakes though, we get one shot to make this game and we can’t mess it up.

To the loyal community who’s stuck by our side since the unveiling of No Man’s Sky years ago, we hope you’ll accept our sincere apology and I am humbly asking that you’ll still look forward to exploring our universe despite the slight delay.

    Thank you so much,
    Sean

    Game comes out next week.

A Reddit user got a leaked copy and apparently it's not great bob.

Full of bugs, repetitive, and only took 30 hours to reach the mythical center of the Galaxy.

Will wait for official reviews and you guys telling me about it before I decide to buy it or not.

The thing about daymeeuhn’s playthrough of No Man’s Sky is that it’s not necessarily representative of the average player’s experience. He claims that he saw "A LOT of what the game has to offer" and didn’t simply race toward the center. However, his method of completing the game involved an unconventional tactic.

Daymeeuhn found a rare item that fetched an extraordinary price in the in-game economy. He essentially farmed that resource so he could sell it for a massive profit, and then he bought upgrades for his ship that allowed him to partake in what he calls "warp jumping" — hurtling toward the center, skipping parts of the game that a typical person would likely play through.

For his part, daymeeuhn characterizes his method as a shortcut rather than a cheat or exploit: He says the game clearly highlights the resource as an option, that it’s not something secret that he stumbled upon. And he insists that he didn’t play No Man’s Sky with the sole intent of min-maxing his build so he could reach the center as fast as possible, saying, "I actually intentionally took time out of my warp jumping over the course of going to the middle to explore planets to break up the monotony of it."

The operative phrase is right there at the end: break up the monotony of it. I’ve played No Man’s Sky for a bit, and although I don’t know if the entire game is monotonous, I feel confident in saying this: If you’re playing in a way that leads you to stop and smell the roses — i.e., to do what the game seems to encourage — just to "break up the monotony of it," then maybe don’t play that way.

Yeah that makes me think he's just a dumbass that doesn't understand the game. Exploring, as a way to break up the monotony, is basically screaming "I have no idea what I'm doing."

I have a shitty sense of direction. With no mini-map, I'm worried this game will just be me looking for my ship for hours on end

Also why do people act surprised when these huge games are buggy at launch? People were complaining about fallout 4 being buggy....ya, of course it was. If it bothers you wait until the first patch is released and then buy the game

They said there's no mini-map when you land on a world so you might not be able to find your way back to where you started. I assume there has to be some way to auto jump off of worlds though. If not people like me couldn't explore out of eye shot of their craft

there's no map, but your ship shows up as an icon you can follow.

I'm hoping they add an ability to map the planets at some point. Seems like something an explorer would pretty frequently do.

Right, I think not having a minimap is silly. If you're exploring surely you'd map the area.

I'm surprised they're not an autopilot feature where you can sort of call your ship to fly to your location. That's pretty standard in science fiction and such.
