I liked this post...then noticed that Shawn is the only other like, so I had to remove it. Please point me to another post where I can award you a like, because him being the only one there is too good.
As someone raised in a 98% white city of 20,000+ people in the south, this absolutely holds up in my experience. The least prejudiced friends I had growing up were definitely the 2-3 guys who played AAU basketball and actually interacted with and had friendships (of varying degrees) with people of different races.
since his dad was a football coach at Ohio U for a long time, he basically grew up in the locker room of an FBS football team - that plus his parents being good people probably helped open his eyes to it as well
I mean, yea. If people think America is racist they should visit an extremely homogeneous country in SEA. When 99.8% of the population basically shares the same blood they tend not to be open to outsiders. Tribalism is a motherfucker to overcome.
I wish that was true but in my experience it is not. What creates someone’s racial views is way more complex than whether or not they have experience around other races. A lot of people that I know who grew up or live around other races or participated in sports with them are die hard Trumpers who probably think “when the looting starts the shooting starts” is hilarious (I haven’t talked to any today, but I am sure I will get to soon) and don’t care at all about civil rights. They like some of the individuals they know and dislike others, which is pretty normal tbh. They do not equate the people they like and George Floyd or Ahmad Aubrey. Both videos were so crystal clear and so heartbreaking that maybe that will change some for those people? I think even still there is still a lot of ambivalence and bias to break through though.
this thread is insane moton is the nccu coach and tight with/mentor to a ton of the unc/duke/state guys ray had just won the cousy award the month before and was 15 mins from campus. and they still treated them both like criminals it’s also really sad that moton was so nervous that this would hurt ray’s draft stock that he legit just didn’t speak of it. as if this would have hurt him in the draft (it would have) #North Carolina Tarheels
not surprising that tons of wrestling fans would unfollow him as a result of his view on this matter...
Pretty good sized protest here in Omaha (72nd & Dodge). Everyone was wearing masks but they were lined up shoulder to shoulder, probably not great for Rona purposes
