Mel Gibson might be a psycho douchebag, but damn the guy can act. For me, it's something like: Unbreakable Signs The Village Split The Sixth Sense Glass Old The Visit Lady in the Water The Happening
Got a question for y'all, do you think Get Out's alternative ending should have been the film's theater ending?
Spoiler Instead of Daniel Kaluuya's friend rolling up and getting him out of there, it's the actual police who arrest him.
I could switch The Village with Sixth Sense and that’d be my list. I also liked The Happening more than the Lady in the Water. It gets a lot of hate but I liked the premise of the story.
Because Jordan Peele is a black m night to some, presumably. I don't know where they get that association from though.
This seems to be getting good reviews so far. Gonna stay out of this thread until I see it, enjoy everyone.
90% thus far on rotten tomatoes (out of 56 critics), currently planning to see it in RPX tomorrow night fam https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/nope
That is a very scary scene. But if you put the climax in terms of NASA…imagine we landed on an alien planet and it took us FOREVER to discover 70% of the planet is hydrochloric acid and then the astronauts decided to walk around naked.
Feel the same. Didn’t need to see any trailer after the first one. Especially after some of the reveals in later trailers.
The news footage scene had me inhale sharply, but THIS scene caused me to almost wet myself. Full-on couldn't sleep immediately for a few nights. Spoiler
Idk about the mixed reactions but I follow a few horror/movie channels on YouTube and Tiktok and most everyone is calling Black Phone an all time great horror film and a lot of people are really pushing for Hawke and the girl who plays the little sister to see some award recognition
Good enough for me. Your opinions tend to be more pretentious/dweeb-ish. I'm more easily entertained. Can't wait for Saturday.
Spoiler I liked it. But I’m still trying to figure out Steven Yeugs childhood character and why it connects to the story. This is certainly not your typical UFO/Abduction film
Spoiler It seems like it was trying to be a piece of commentary (that I don't think i've really put together yet bc my first thought was it's how he turned tragedy into this business for others to consume but im still not sure, I also was expecting for it to be called MonkeyPaw at some point since that's Peel's production company) but it not really adding to the story overall is kinda what I did not like with that bit
Spoiler its about making a spectacle of/not understanding the predator when he was a kid, he had a connection with the predator and was spared as an adult, he loses that understanding and creates the spectacle, and well, you saw what happened
Spoiler That makes sense. I do wish that got relayed to Kaluya’s character and he learned that/used that in the third act instead of just making a big spectacular out of it bc it goes against that arch then.
Spoiler he kinda does as he now "understands" the predator - not making eye contact with it, knowing things it doesnt like, etc. holst just fucks the whole thing up going for the magic hour shot
Weird. But I enjoyed it. Some of the horseback riding scenes were really well done with the tube men flailing as he rides.
Just got out. I enjoyed the first 2/3 of it. Did not really care for the main plot twist Spoiler ]that the UFO is actually an animal.
Spoiler I will say I didn't entirely understand why the one guy just decided to bounce and go get abducted after capturing the shot.
Spoiler Might be remembering wrong but he popped pills and seems like he was dying/out of it. Probably just wanted to do the impossible or something as his last hurrah Spoiler Man the characters were so likable to me. OJ, Em, and Angel mostly. When Emerald said she knew the dude would bring a non electric camera and her and Oj low-fived 3 times so hard I was dying. Just perfect. I really enjoyed the film btw. The "aliens" in the barn was so fucked and the chimp scenes were horrifying. Movie wasn't what i expected but thoroughly enjoyed it. Jean Jacket in it's final form was gorgeous, I assume that was the entity/angel/alien trying to exert some dominance or lure the prey. It was great.
Spoiler because he saw the light change (sunset/golden hour) and knew if he captured it with that light the shot would be even better imo that character was a little overboard stereotype but they did give him a line of dialogue that was like "ohhh the light over there" or something
I thought it was ok. I liked the characters, acting, and how everything was shot but I kept waiting for the plot to elevate to a higher level and it never really did. Definitely thought Get Out and Us were a decent amount better. Spoiler I wish the alien/predator would have been a little more intimidating at the end. It just looked like the were getting attacked by a kite.
Not sure if sarcastic or not, but there's a way to discuss differences in opinions without ridiculing someone. Even on TMB.
it was absolutely sarcasm and I don’t know what to tell you if you think think that’s legit ridicule also Iceberg lettuce is the absolute best salad salad base & sandwich/burger topping
Well, if you post your tastes for others to read, you should expect that people might react with their thoughts on your taste. Also, I didn’t ask you to justify it. I just laughed at how bad it was.
My first and biggest takeaway is that Keke Palmer (Emerald) and Brandon Perea (Angel) were amazing. KeKe’s facial expressions, her delivery, all of it. She was incredible.
Loved it, think the messaging is really fascinating, but it’s really different than what I and I assume most are expecting going in. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of people feel disappointed or complain its not scary
