you don't see the importance of predicting who wins the first primary/caucus?
Now see, this is what happens when posters either misunderstand the legitimate question being asked or jump to conclusions.
Your country has a very, very different system of choosing candidates than most other countries in the world. Down here, the party chooses their leader from sitting members of parliament. It's generally a ballot that takes about an hour and then it's done. Obviously not what happens in the US.
Now, in the process of giving me a bit of lip, you also actually answered my question - Iowa's the first state up in the primaries. I wasn't aware of that but now I know. So maybe that's all you needed to say?
The correct response is to recognize that we're a bunch of electoral morons instead of being the stereotypical asshole American
It's cool, man. It's clear he didn't realise I didn't know the Iowa poll related specifically to the upcoming primary in the state and how it's the first in the entire process, which is somewhat understandable, just a little disappointing. But I appreciate your comments.
Yeah, it's a weird process. Iowa is first and then you get New Hampshire, South Carolina etc. That's why you see all these visits and polls exclusive to those states. It's why you are seeing people in California more too, they moved their's up.
It's also not a primary - it's a caucus.
Thanks Niles - yeah, I knew the general process having gained a real interest in US politics ever since I studied it at uni a lifetime ago, I just didn't put 2 and 2 together regarding the Iowa poll but it now makes complete sense (duh).
I was in the US in mid 2016 and couldn't get enough of it on TV - by that stage it was Trump vs HRC or Bernie, but the old guy was just coming from too far back. Funnily enough, guess where I'll be in Jun/Jul next year...
Guys I have to tell you I probably tack to the right of Warren on 33% of her issues, but I listened to this today and I am beginning to think she may be the best person to lead us back to some sort of balance in this country.
I think this is the one: https://player.fm/series/the-ezra-klein-show/the-plan-behind-elizabeth-warrens-plans
The concept of the wealth tax (2 cents on every dollar beyond the 50 million mark) and the dividends that will pay as a starting measure are pretty on point. If she ONLY got that done and got the anti-corruption bill passed in a single term that would go a long way to bringing the country back to some sort of sanity. I am no stan (check my post history) but I can see the appeal.
Also, in listening to her, I am sort of flummoxed as to how anyone would demonize her. She is clearly a public servant. Most of her policies benefit people other than herself and her inner circle (the powerful). I mean, how do you listen to a podcast like this and cast her as a "bad guy?" I mean, she stepped on a rake a few times about the native american thing, which, frankly, was not smooth. But other than that, what exactly has she done that is damaging? She seems to genuinely give fucks and she has a track record of doing so.
She has a vagina. Therefore, she's bad.
Big, if true.
Our country is full of idiots and the Native American thing is all the majority of the country will think of when it comes to her
If she wins the nomination, fuckface will turn the Native American thing into an issue again. The only chance we have at the electorate getting past it is Facebook shutting down by then.
There has to be an articulate way to handle it. I would probably advise a candidate to just own it.
"Here are my mistakes:
1) Discuss Native American thing
Here are my opponents mistakes:
I admit mine and am ready to move forward if you (the voters) are, because I have ideas that will help the VAST MAJORITY of you listening/watching.
Will he admit his? How many of you are personally better off because of his term?"
Sounds shrill and lecturey, hard pass vote Trump hashtagMAGA
Why is it even framed as a mistake? She’s from Oklahoma. If her family told her she was Native American, why would she not believe them?
especially with fellow vagina having individuals
Your incel is peaking out again.
unfortunately this is a real thing.
Is it incel to say women typically don’t vote for other women? Has Hillary taught us nothing?
There has never been a woman president so it’s safe to say that probably hasn’t traditional been isolated to females.
Hillary never taught us anything intentionally. Just how to not run a campaign, how not to choose a candidate (more so the DNC's failing), a reiteration of the electoral college's shortcomings, so forth. Nothing positive or intentional.
Same reason why so many people hated Obama unjustifiably will happen to Warren. People don't like it when a non-white male is smarter than them and telling them what needs to be done to fix their lives at the institution level. Goes against their ingrained and pre-determined sense of hierarchy.
If Warren was campaigning on personality or "hope and change", I'd worry about personality and "shrill". But she's not and her policy differences between the other candidates and Trump benefit millenials and parents with kids the most, who dems need to turn out in the generel to beat Trump.
Warren is the biggest pivot from Trump and I hope that resonates in the primaries to get her on the ticket.
I've read too many posts from former GOP voters (or so they say) on various forums that have more or less stated "I like her, but this is going to hurt her and I think it reflects badly on her judgement" which basically only fucking perpetuates this being a huge issue. If we stop acting like it's a big deal, which it isn't, then it won't get the oxygen it needs to be an issue that dominates the news cycle if she is the nominee.
I'm bored so I'm watching all the 5 minute speeches from yesterday. Good lord the top 4-5 are like Clemson/Bama and the rest are basically Purdue.
Whole bunch of white folks in these sorts of states have this family story, whether it's true or not. It really shouldn't be a big deal.
It should be as simple as:
"This is what I was told my whole life and up until a few years ago there was no way to objectively verify it. It wasn't malicious at all."
It's an excuse for shy trumpers to verbalize criticism against a Dem
Who cares about the GOP... They're not flipping, a dem turnout similar to 2008 will win the general.
I grew up with a bunch of people who would claim something similar to what Warren did.
The idea that Warren used or tried to use a racial minority status to gain an advantage in hiring is basically reactionary catnip. I'm generally highly skpetical of any "it will energize Trump's base" argument but if there was ever a candidate who was really going to juice uneducated white male turnout, it would be Warren.
Yang gang where we at
lol at klobuchar coming out to dessa
Not sure that is correct. Pete uses High Hopes - Panic! at the Disco for everything.
Looks like that song is a remix of it but I'd be shocked.
This might be disqualifying.
I've liked Panic! since college. Urie can sing. saw them on their first tour and it was great, but that said i love theater and spectacle which is what they are. When Pete walked out to that at his announcement world's collided for me.
My mom has historically claimed the same thing about herself. Which I find it hard to believe she would claim it given how racist she is.
Some of you all are from some small ass counties. Go look up the Census figures. You'll usually find some tiny-ass percentage of "Native Americans" there, when you know well and good that there hasn't been an Indian there since Gen. Jackson pushed them out West.
And it's more than likely someone like Elizabeth Warren's mom. Probably claimed to be 1/16 Cherokee.
grew up in MO where everyone in our family was OK or IA
no idea the actual evidence but my paternal side has had a "we're part native american" story forever
For as little as a $1 donation you can get this Mayor Pete sticker
Welp, now I have another Pete sticker no clue where to put this one.
Put it on the barrel of your baseball bat or, if you're in advanced mode, your post-revolution guillotine.
Remind them President Pete tried to do this peacefully. Oh, well, nonetheless.
Biden really should be running as a Republican.
I think he's old and naive and is failing to recognize obvious shifts in the republican party.
uh, ya think?
I also will be receiving this Pete sticker, donated a whole $1 because sometimes I like to
Dude, just try and primary Trump.
