I'll say this. If UNC is #13 CBB sucks this year, this ND team has a potential but is nowhere near top 25.
yeah they're definitely not the 13th best team in the country. i like how we played for the most part tonight, we just run into that wall.
Sinclair's recruiting rundown Spoiler Sinclair’s Mid-Week Recruiting Rundown VIP ByKEVIN SINCLAIR 4 hours ago 32 (Photo: Matt Cashore, 247Sports) It’s safe to say that Notre Dame fans have been zeroing in on the wide receiver and running back positions when it comes to 2020 recruiting recently. So, let’s discuss the top prospects at those position groups, including an important unofficial visit that was set last night. First, let’s start with Notre Dame’s top wide receiver prospect. JORDAN JOHNSON On Tuesday evening, I connected with Top 50 wide receiver Jordan Johnson who has been making some moves in terms of visit plans. Initially, he’d said that he was looking at cancelling his upcoming visit to Alabama and instead, returning to Notre Dame for another look at the Irish. Later last night, Johnson confirmed that he’ll indeed be visiting Notre Dame on January 26. There’s been plenty of discussion on Jordan Johnson and rightfully so. If you consume recruiting content at Irish Illustrated, you know that I personally view the St. Louis blazer as the No. 1 overall 2020 prospect for Notre Dame. If you’re looking for a second opinion on Johnson, don’t miss Tim Prister’s recent film evaluation of the Top 50 prospect (click here for that review). Irish Illustrated will keep you in the loop on this development. Surely, luring Johnson back to South Bend following a 12-1 season could prove to have important implications. It’s possible he could link up with Kyren Williams while on campus – an athlete he knows from St. Louis area sports. JALEN MCMILLAN The No. 2 wide receiver on my personal board, Jalen McMillan is another athlete I’ve looked into closely in recent weeks. For last week’s interview with McMillan, click here. And for my detailed interview with his head coach, click here. The big news dug up from my recent discussion with McMillan was that he plans to visit Notre Dame for the spring game on April 13. It’s also worth noting that the big-play wide out and his family put forth an effort to make it to a late regular season game in South Bend, but logistically, the timing in conjunction with his own football schedule made that trip impossible. McMillan also mentioned that he’s in touch with DelVaughn Alexander about every second day, and that the focus on academics and development beyond the degree and football is an aspect that genuinely strikes his interest. In terms of speaking with highly-regarded San Joaquin Memorial head coach Anthony Goston, it was important to learn that his daughter graduated from Notre Dame before returning this fall to enter law school in South Bend. With Goston having a close link to McMillan, these types of connections have proven to play in Notre Dame’s favor in the past. Of course, when we’re talking about Top 100 talent from the West coast, any connections to Notre Dame is a major plus. With a strong understanding and ‘relationship with Notre Dame,’ which Goston expressed he had, his take that McMillan is ‘definitely a kid that fits the culture of a place like Notre Dame’ was a certainly an important note. Despite the demographic undertones, McMillan is no longshot for the Irish. A.J. HENNING I had a solid discussion with A.J. Henning on the weekend and for the most part, there wasn’t a lot of new notes added to this high-profile recruiting story. For that interview article, click here. Of course, being that Henning is a top priority recruit, it’s important to get him on record, find the latest on his recruitment as he’s targeted nationally. Along with Notre Dame, the schools he mentioned as being in hot pursuit for his pledge were in-state schools in Illinois and Northwestern along with Michigan, Ohio State, and Stanford. “Notre Dame is definitely a school of top interest of mine,” Henning said. “They’ve let me know that I’m a top interest of theirs, that I’m a priority for them. Looking through a more long-term lens, Henning is working on deciding if he will (1) take official visits through the spring and summer before making a commitment before his senior season, or (2) take gameday officials through the fall before deciding after his senior season. There is a wait-and-see element to this recruitment. As for my Crystal Ball Prediction in favor of the Irish, cautiously confident is how I’d describe my outlook. CHRIS TYREE In simple terms, what Chris Tyree has mentioned recently leads me to believe that Notre Dame is among his top schools within his Top 10 which he is working on chopping down. However, a key note within his interest is his high-praise for Autry Denson who, of course, is no longer with the Irish. Going forward, it’s very likely the Irish replace Denson with a running back coach who doubles as a top-shelf recruiter. For now, we can only speculate on how that situation will play out. But for Tyree, his interest in Notre Dame revolves around a lot more than just his position coach. In terms of his skill set, everyone loves his elite speed and home run ability. But some have questioned whether his 5-foot-10, 175-pound listing means that he’s more of a role guy, not a feature back. For some insider insight on that question, I reached out to his head coach Kevin Tucker. For that interview, click here. Tucker is a graduate of Thomas Dale High School and has been around the program since his high school years. He’s seen three former Dale running backs play in the NFL, and in his opinion, Tyree has the chops to develop into a lead back, a large workload athlete. Of course, that’s up for debate. But in the end, this is a top priority prospect who we’ll be discussing plenty in the future. SIDE NOTES: With regards to these two position groups, a few thoughts have come to mind recently. * One point that I feel gets lost in the 2020 wide receiver – running back discussion is the fact that Notre Dame currently holds commitments from Drew Pyne, a nationally-known QB who rates as the No. 113 overall recruit in the class, and both the No. 1 and No. 2 tight ends in the country. 32COMMENTS Talent attracts talent. And when it comes to the early pieces added offensively, if I’m a four-star wide receiver or running back, I’m impressed with what Notre Dame has early. * Related to the topic above, if the Irish can pull in one of the top wide receivers on the board, we could see a domino effect take place. For instance; if the Irish were to add a guy like Johnson or McMillan to the perimeter this off-season, and I’m a 2020 prospect looking at an offensive class that looks like: Pyne – Mayer – Bauman – Johnson, I’m giving the Irish a hard look. There’s potential for an exciting offensive class in the works. Jordan Johnson canceled his Bama visit on 1/26 to go to ND's junior day...that's a pretty big deal. Kid our top WR prospect for 2020 and is a legit top 50 prospect
Loving the way Nd has adapted to processing kids - you suck load up on credits you have to graduate in 3 years and do your last 2 somewhere else as a grad transfer. Seems like the best of all worlds
Also, what is Tom lemming up to these days. God he was such a big name when i started following recruiting years ago
He’s a four star damnit. It says it right there. Also a guy next to me just asked what kind of coke the restaurant has. She responded Pepsi. I am triggered.
I had to resort to google to figure out if this was football or basketball. I have absolutely zero recollection of this kid being recruited.
Lol coach d is gonna get fired he is going hard after the rivals rankings since they dropped every single Nd commit except one. They even dropped Foskey who signed but didn’t announce
Seems like a really long winded way of saying “Quenton Nelson joined our team and his mentality finally took over.” Gonna be cheering for the Colts in the future because of that dude.
USC reporter is reporting ND is trying to greyshirt Marist Liafau and USC is trying to flip him No idea how this works since he already signed his LOI but doesn’t sound great
Delays enrollment till spring semester where they essentially can make him a 2020 class early enrollee
Well I always thought he was a weird late add with us having a billion players on our roster. I think it will all work itself out. We will have a few more transfers in spring. Guys like McKinley possibly when he's 3rd string. Or guys get medical out after spring.
Same here. It's not losing losing one particular player, it's how it happens. Process the kids who've had the shot they were promised, especially the ones who got their degree. Don't offer a kid and once he's signed, pull it out from under him. Then again, this is a Southern Cal board rumor at this point.
We look to add two more correct? Gonna have this stuff happen. That said if he signed his LOI ND is on the hook for the schooly right? Unless they have cause to take it away.
I’d like to take a baseball bat to the one guy who wrote this and decided to sign it as six. That’s 100% a lie.
Just wait until those six Navy guys realize that in the grand scheme of things, they aren't all that special. This letter wreaks of entitlement and a huge lack of perspective.
