Question for you guys on 2 NFL guys. The ravens can’t draft/develop a WR to save our lives and almost every guy the Steelers draft becomes a stud. You watched them both closely. Was chase claypool a much better prospect than miles boykin coming out of college or do you think a lot of the difference in success has to do with scheme and development at the pro level?
Claypool is an all around athletes and his role on special teams was always huge. He was always criticized at ND for his commitment to the game but when he turned it on he was pretty damn good. Boykin has the size and really came on late at ND. I’d take Claypool every time though. I do think he’s a notch better in most categories.
just 1 mans opinion but: I thought that Boykins was a bigger gamble as both didnt really play up to their measurables but boykins was more fluid yet claypool would at the very least be a great blocking receiver who could muscle his ways into 50-50 balls. I do think Claypool was the better prospect but i never expected him to blow up like this. Also really dont see how you cant at the very least use Boykin like the saints used Robert Meachem or how Ted Ginn was used to take the top off. Boykin is good in jump balls so if you fuck up the throw odds are still good and not many players are faster. Unless im totally mistakin Boyks was always a decent blocker as well
Boykin ended up being a Combine freak, but it was pretty shocking to all of us when he put up those numbers. He never played like that at ND. Claypool was always the better football player.
Both guys were late bloomers at ND, Claypool was more productive in the early years before being a stud. Boykin was kind of a nobody for us until his junior year he started making circus catches in the bowl game. He kind of made a living on back shoulder throws and then tested very well in the draft process. Claypool was the all around more polished player for us. He was always one of our best special teams players to the point where people wondered if he should be a lb or safety for us before he got it going his last two years.
for sure edit: You guys had a receiving core of jennings, driver, nelson and jones and have consistently had great receivers as well. I think Packers, Saints, Falcons and until a year ago Texans fans arent allowed to complain about receivers on other teams ;)
We consistently grabbed great wr's in the second round and haven't taken one there since Adams. I was thinking this last year would be the year but we took a rb that can't see the field instead. There was a point last year with Adams injured where our wr's were a 6th rounder and the rest undrafted.
i was absolutely shocked that you guys didnt take a WR given the quality of last years class. Wouldve prolly been Bryan Edwards but that Dillon pick never made sense to me. Hell, given how rodgers looks now the love pick doesnt make sense either. I like how the saints are squeezing every drop of potential out of the Brees window and accept life is gonna be rough for a few years afterwards, feel like the packers couldve done the same with picks like tee higgins instead of Love and Jeremy Chinn or willie gay with that second rounder
The conspiracy theory types think that drafting Love may have been the motivational ploy to piss off Rodgers and motivate him to play better. Dillon I understand because Jones and Williams are free agents. What has kind of leaked out from the Packers is that there were wr's they liked, but they weren't as high on a lot of them as the draft community. I think they wanted Jefferson and panicked when he went off the board.
Claypool was head and shoulders a better athlete. He was one of our most physical players too. He simply loved hitting people.
Coach D posted this (regarding ND commits always falling in the rankings at Rivals) and I thought it was hilarious. It's the first time I've ever heard someone at Rivals or who used to work there actually say it: That's what Rivals does. I used to work there, and there was a clear bias with SOME of the folks there. Not all, but there are some decision makers and influencers who absolutely have anti-ND bias. In fact, at one of the all-star games, a prominent national person involved in the rankings went up to one of the recruiting reporters at BGI (where I worked at the time) and said, "Are you ready to see all the Notre Dame commits drop in the rankings." He said he was joking, but almost every single ND commit dropped in the next rankings.
I don’t believe coach d he’s just trying to poach people from BGI. That said there is an incentive to pander to the larger fan bases and uncommitted kids.
I kind of believe him on this one, we ´ve seen multiple examples. tyree dropped like a rock, if he committed to Oklahoma or bama do you think it would’ve happened? but it doesn’t really matter, it just sucks for the recruits
Does it make me an ignorant ND fan that I have no idea who "Coach D" is? Based on the way you guys talk about him I've always assumed it was Coach Doucebag.
Someone else May have better info but he was a poster and a D-2 coach who does not a ton about football. Left the coaching business and wrote for BGI until he got fired by rivals and signed on with sports illustrated. Very opinionated and not very polished as a journalist so says shit that pisses off the other writers
that’s the jist of it but there is so much more, the guy fights with everybody. He used to post then was hired by a few sites on different occasions. I especially remember when he was working for frank and it was hilarious. On the boards he would get absolutely out of control if you questioned anything he said and then you just had to reply with « you are too sensitive coachd » and it was over. Dude was losing his shit. « Ok Bryan(his name) let’s agree to disagree » he would respond, « no you are wrong » completey over the board religious, probably a maniac. But he is very good at analyzing football because it’s pretty much the only thing he does. he writes like a 10 years old, he can’t stop speaking on podcast. The guy is a treasure.
Yes, and if you ever want to write anything to him. Call him Brian . He will get mad over it bc his name is Bryan.
Have you guys seen the tweets for the seniors by elston and mcnulty? It’s getting dusty here One example
Driskell rose to some fame among ND fans when he broke down x's & O's as a poster and I think he used to have a blog? Then he got that job at Rivals or whatever. But he's a massive douchebag.
i love these jokes and that might be the best one yet, did not see that one coming. Lol and I do not use that term lightly
It's a lovable and impressive group of young men. My enjoyment of this season pales in comparison to just how happy I am that they get to enjoy it.
College without the parties seems miserable, imagine being a college football player and having to stay in your space without dipping a little. Impossible
