As long as the walls don't collapse in on themselves they can restore the building.
here comes Lyrtch to lecture everyone! Buckle up!
Nearly positive someone has a minecraft remake of it.
We'll be good
They've taken a tremendous amount 3-D imagery of it, no clue how likely it is that this could be used to help replace the woodwork.
The point is that restoration is relative. Can they put a roof on it? Sure. But, they're not going to be able to reproduce the same roof that was on it.
thats fucking awesome
There are plenty of churches around Europe that have been destroyed and restored. Think the Vatican has enough money to cover it.
Most all that can be said, has been said, an immense global tragedy. My parents were going in November for their 60th birthday. 850 years, 6 months too short. Pretty sad for them today, pretty sad for the world. Such a tremendous loss.
I’m sure a criminal investigation will be standard operating procedure. Arson would just be awful.
I know someone that can help
Yes the exact wood is lost forever.
Very astute observation
well this sucks taint
They already said it was an accident related to renovation work
A Lutheran church near my parents house burned down a couple of years ago. They were working on part of the sanctuary and a welder took a lunch break and left his torch on. Burned the whole thing to the ground. I'm going to assume something similar happened for now.
That's why I pointed it out.
given the fire seemingly started where all the renovation framework was, I think it is safe to assume it was a horrible accident
leave it to the goddamn French.
Yella Wood is only for building Chruch of the Highlands Cathedrals
Damn the fire spread to the Towers. Whole thing is just going to be a shell by morning.
A renovation accident/oversight makes sense, but I doubt there’s definitive confirmation of the events that led to the fire yet.
Nothing close to this scale, and the Vatican does not own the building. It's property of the French government.
That's wonderful news.
Please stop with your ignorant grief tourism.
He didn't have a picture of himself with it he could post?
Thoros of Beer already reported this
dont get me wrong this is an incredible cultural disaster but the WE HAVENT HAD A LOSS LIKE THIS SINCE ALEXANDRIA takes and similar are absurd
i lost a lot of likes when tmb crashed in 2015 so i understand the level of loss we’re having as a society with this fire
apologies everyone doesn't have your temperament and perspective during this catastrophe.
name a similar loss of a place of historical value
I personally thank Lyrtch for adding this term to my lexicon. Read the Wiki page on it and everything
Who hurt you?
I want to know more about the art and treasure rescue efforts.
I was just walking down the hall at work and thought about what would happen if a plane dumped water on the plane. And I literally had to stop and collect myself at how dumb Trump's tweet was
Why aren't jokes tolerated
crazy to think about
Things that have happened on April 15: - The Titanic sank - Lincoln died - Boston marathon bombings - Notre Dame burned
Apparently most/all was saved.
Imagine disaster policing the Notre Dame Cathedral burning down. I mean what else in your lifetime compares to such significant historical loss.
This would be a good opportunity for looting. Gonna check dark web to see if there's any hot buys right now
This sucks. Only place I visiting twice while in Paris last month. Such an awesome cathedral with the artifacts and stained glass windows. Hopefully it won’t be completely ruined. The Notre Dame de Reims was badly damaged in the two World Wars and was rebuilt and looks great now so hopefully that will be the case with Notre Dame de Paris.
