QB position really couldn't look more bleak for next year, assuming that we actually want to stay at that elite level. Do we think the grad transfer route is a possibility to bridge the gap between Book and Buchner?
so apparently (more based on the title of the article) ND is also really kicking the tires on Gilliam, a WDE currently committed to OU. If ND (they wont) somehow add Gilliam, Edwards and Riley they would get the highest rated class for ND since 2013 and higher than 2011 (the second highest in the BK era)
sounds like Gilliam's interest is early but legit Spoiler As Irish Illustrated and 247Sports have reported, Notre Dame is making a run at one of the top defensive linemen in the country from the class of 2021, Highland Springs (Va.) high school four-star recruit Kelvin Gilliam. the 6-3, 250-pounder has been committed to Oklahoma since Aug. 22 and chose the Sooners over an outstanding list of scholarship offers. However, as of late, Notre Dame started kicking the tires with Gilliam and actually extended an offer to officially throw its hat in the ring. On Monday, Gilliam was able to jump on a Zoom call with the Fighting Irish coaching staff and Notre Dame laid out exactly what they have to offer. "It was great,” said Gilliam. “I knew that Notre Dame was such a prestigious school, but I was impressed with the atmosphere and the school itself. It was just all great.” Gilliam says that a bunch of coaches were on the call with him, at least those on the defensive side of the ball. He seemed to genuinely appreciate all the love from the Notre Dame staff and how much detail they put into the presentation. "The entire defensive staff,” said Gilliam, when asked who was on the call. “Clark Lea, coach Mike Elston, the recruiting coordinator Brian Polian, the assistant defensive line coach, coach Terry Joseph. Most of the entire defensive staff. "Their message is that Notre Dame is a special place,” continued Gilliam. “They know that I'm committed to Oklahoma, but they just feel that it's just the right fit for me, both academically and to play on a big national stage as well.” Like many others, Gilliam spent Saturday night watching Notre Dame take down previously-ranked No. 1 Clemson, 47-40. The play of the Fighting Irish seemed to make quite the impression. "It was crazy. That defense got after it and stopped one of the most impressive running backs in college football right now,” said Gilliam of Notre Dame. “That defense held him up. It was great watching that. It was a very exciting game as well.” Gilliam remains committed to Oklahoma. The Sooners coaching staff knows that Notre Dame offered and has been pursuing him. He made sure to express that to them. "They know that Notre Dame is very interested in me,” said Gilliam, when asked if Oklahoma knows about his conversations with Notre Dame. “I think they just remain to their roots. What Oklahoma's pitch to me is they were there from the jump when I was getting recruited before I committed. But Notre Dame made that clear that they were like, 'Who cares.' They gave me their reasons why and I take them for the truth as their word. "Oklahoma is going to still try to do their best, of course, but Notre Dame, they're showing a lot of interest. Right now, they're gonna do what's best. They're gonna recruit how Notre Dame recruits,” continued Gilliam. “Coach Elston wants to do a position meeting. They want me to learn more academically. That was basically their intro of Notre Dame to me.” Notre Dame is expected to get back in touch with Gilliam later this week for another call on Thursday and potentially a third zoom call next Monday. "The Vyper end,” said Gilliam, as he was asked what position Notre Dame sees him fitting in at. “The big defensive end that can pass-rush and create havoc on the defensive side.” The Notre Dame coaching staff isn’t the only group recruiting him to join the Fighting Irish. Multiple commits from the 2021 class are putting in work to get him on board as well. 35COMMENTS "Oh yeah, a lot of them,” said Gilliam with a laugh. “The primary one is Blake Fisher. He just wanted to know if I got the same vibe he got from Notre Dame and the same family atmosphere. He's a real cool guy. A lot of guys he connected me with. Guys like Jason Onye, Pat Coogan, guys like that.” Per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Gilliam is the No. 102 overall player in the country, No. 6 weak-side defensive end in America and the No. 3 recruit in Virginia from the class of 2021.
I am guessing Riley is a done deal back to ND and he will be an EE so hopefully all the drama ends soon
And this is why the narrative so so damn important - getting blown out in every big game made negative recruiting so much easier
wiltfong on Donovan Edwards: Obviously this is playing out well for ND with the way their season is going as things stand now. We'll see how the rest of the campaign plays out. Beyond that, proximity some believe will ultimately be a factor in the decision, so ND in a good location there. It's obvious ND was down the list at one point in this recruitment but they do seem to be in the thick of it now. We'll see how it continues moving forward.
ND absolutely needs to strike while the iron is hot. Hit up every too prospect we were after and let them know what's what. You can't let momentum like this go to the wayside. I like what I'm seeing and hearing from the staff in this regard.
Gavin Wimsatt, top 40 player in 2022 QB Spoiler One of Notre Dame's top targets in the 2022 class is Owensboro (Ky.) High Top247 quarterback Gavin Wimsatt. The Irish are recruiting him hard and Saturday's win over Clemson also made an impression on the blue-chip passer. "It definitely lets me know what the coaches are capable of and gives me comfort knowing that they are definitely invested," Wimsatt told 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Wimsatt is tabbed by the Top247 as the nation's No. 2 dual-threat passer and No. 40 prospect overall. He is approaching 20 offers and although he's yet to name favorites, it's obvious he is high on the Irish early in his process. "I really like the coaches and what they’re about," Wimsatt said. "The campus is amazing. The education there is one of the best in the country so there is a lot of things I like about them." Wimsatt's mom Darniece Douglas has also been impressed with Notre Dame. “We actually have a family on with the basketball program so it’s neat we have family there (Harold Swanagan). His mom and my mom are sisters so we have close family down there. So he was super excited somebody from small Owensboro got offered by Notre Dame. They had a big win Saturday. Oh man that was an exciting game. I’m not going to lie. That was exciting to watch. “I think right now all the teams are playing good but that one was impressive. “I like the educational part for me as a mom. I like the educational part the most. I like their coaching staff. I like how they didn’t give up. They executed very well Saturday. He is really comfortable with their coaching staff.” Owensboro is 7-0 at this point in the season. As a sophomore Wimsatt threw for 31 touchdowns and rushed for 12 more.
Everyone: take away ND's running game and play max coverage make Ian Book go through reads Pitt and Clemson: Hold my beer
I think we have to. Sell on the fact that he’d have all ND’s passing records. Makes a much easier transition to Buchner.
Book is done, he's already a 5th year. He won't come back, whats the point I do think ND should at least consider a transfer, with everyone getting more eligibility some of the names that appear in the portal after the season might surprise the shit out of us
This year doesn’t count towards eligibility due to COVID, so he could actually come back. He’s not a pro QB, this is the best thing he’ll have in his life likely hah
Probably an equal testament to nd’s pass blocking. Would love to see us start to process some guys in this class if it really does heat uo
This is my key takeaway from the game. Absolutely nobody thought ND could win this game on Ian Book’s arm. He proved everyone wrong. Let’s just hope it becomes a consistent thing.
I honestly would be perfectly fine with either kid. I think Angeli's got quite a bit more to show. He could be Book but much bigger and with a stronger arm I do really like Wimsatt as well btw
i think that's fair Loy has mentioned that he's heard rumblings that Angeli might already be a silent but hasn't confirmed that yet
I think ND OLine wins the Joe Moore award JOK wins the Butkus as best LB I am guessing both are the leading candidates for each reward right now
all ND fans should go read this thread from a USC site...WOW makes me giddy inside https://wearesc.com/forum/index.php?threads/i’m-really-glad-we-don’t-play-nd-this-year.74917/
this one especially got me: Man ND is for real. Very Good football team. Physical as heck. Great OL and Very Good DL. Dang, QB, Ian Book is top 5 QB in the nation. And, he's a California kid. Was he a highly rated HS QB? This kid is very good QB, athletic and tons of Mojo. He willed his team to victory.
"Comparing programs, if this were a race, Notre Dame has lapped us and is about to leave us in the dust again. Due to self-inflicted wounds (we know what they are), we are standing still or regressing while they are getting stronger and stronger. Except for a few years in the 60s, 70s and 00s, we haven't really been competitive." Fap Fap Fap
Pretty amazing how far the program has gone. Outside of Bama, Clemson, and Ohio State, we’re toward the top of the next tier of top programs in terms of sustainability and consistency.
I don't think clemson trusted their corners. And I think they were scared our TE would body them all night long.
I am ok with this year being Book's swan song. Give me a raw but super talented Buchner and let him start getting some live experience.
yeah, at this point its those 3 and a bit of a gap, than its a group of (in no order) georgia, oklahoma, oregon and us with florida flirting with moving back into this group id say
Sorry guys. I made some really bad comments. I just got really upset by the cancer stuff. Congrats ND, Bama is my roots and long live the GD, especially Jerry.
