I guess. We can sell him that this is winter in the midwest, see it's not THAT bad. But I'd have preferred low 50s and sunny.
From Matt Freeman on the Vandy job: I spoke to a source this morning and plan to talk to a few more, but Charlotte head coach Will Healy might have the inside track to be the next head coach at Vanderbilt. There have been rumblings Vandy had his name on their watch list this summer and he's an offensive guy, so it would make sense if Vandy wants to go the offensive route. He hasn't exactly lit the world on fire at 9-9 at Charlotte, but he's a name to watch here. Charlotte is supposed to host WKU on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if that game is even played.
Granted, I still expect Lea gone this offseason so I’m not getting my hopes up too much. But given the timing of things, Vandy likely wants to move quickly and get a new coach in soon, so it would be great if they’re werent Lea’s landing spot.
I only agree with Thoros of Beer on bourbon and IHHH drinking issues, but I am 100% in agreement here.
Yep, a 10 win season is very realistic with an adequate QB. A good grad transfer (which is more likely next year than any other) could mean another contention season depending on who leaves. Book should stay.
i can't stop watching this play. Kyren is so good, and still underrated. Plus, he looks like Golden Tate in uniform with helmet on (but not with it off)
I looked at this over the weekend and thought the same thing. I could've sworn next year was the first year of the OSU home and home, but obviously we've got another year until things get pretty hellish.
I was about to make such a good run in my fantasy league and Fuller really throws a wrench in that... except that I just traded for Claypool
If we somehow land Ceyair Wright we open up so much more position flexibility with the guys we have committed.
Probably not, but no one sets a visit in December to see a school just to do it. Especially when no students on campus and not even sure if he can watch the game in person.
Quote from Wright on his visit this weekend: "For me, I want to see a little more of the city, more of South Bend. The last visit, I was mainly just on the campus but we didn't get out and really explore the surrounding area. I want to see what all there is to do there and just get a better vibe for how I would fit and how comfortable I would be."
and half nd’s oline is injured. But I am sure you will be the first to talk about the impact that it had on the game when Nd loses the rematch
No LA kid is coming to South Bend in Dec with both of his parents on their own dime for 3 nights w/o being able to see the game in person if he's not super interested in ND. USC still leads according to Biggins but this trip could flip the script. He would be a pretty significant add to the class if they could land him.
Yesterday's recruiting scoop from Loy Spoiler Notre Dame, the No. 2 team in the country according to the latest College Football Playoff Rankings, isn’t just shining on the field, but off of it as well. The Fighting Irish have secured 23 commits in the class of 2021 and have the No. 8-ranked recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. So, who else is left to join the squad? Where do things stand with the current targets in the 2021 class? Irish Illustrated brings you the latest. SLIDE1 of 8 Let’s start with the not-so-good news. Although Notre Dame made one heck of a run at him, it looks like Highland Springs (Va.) high school four-star defensive end Kelvin Gilliam will stick with his commitment to Oklahoma. The Fighting Irish coaching staff spent a ton of time recruiting him over the past few weeks and felt as thought they were getting close to flipping him, but couldn’t get over the hump. In fact, much of the credit should simply go to the Oklahoma coaching staff for strapping in and working equally as hard to keep him committed. The Sooners’ coaching staff was relentless in making sure Gilliam continued to feel the love and in the end, it doesn’t look like Notre Dame will get this done. Big fan of Gilliam and believe he has the chance to do great things at Oklahoma. I’m excited to watch his progression in the coming years in Norman. SLIDE2 of 8 On the flip side, I feel great about Notre Dame and its pursuit of Oxnard (Calif.) Pacifica three-star defensive end Devin Aupiu. The 6-6, 225-pounder is currently committed to UCLA, but he’s a guy Notre Dame has been recruiting for the past few weeks. As Irish Illustrated first reported on Friday, Notre Dame actually offered Aupiu this past Wednesday and made it clear that he had a spot in South Bend with the Irish if he wanted in the class. From what we’ve gathered, barring an unexpected change, Notre Dame looks good to flip him from his pledge to the Bruins. Aupiu is loaded with upside and potential. He’s also right on the cusp of his a four-star ranking, so if he plays in the Polynesian Bowl, it’s possible he earns that with a strong week. Aupiu will enroll early at his school of choice and I expect him to come to a final decision this week, at least behind the scenes, but maybe even publicly. SLIDE3 of 8 Nothing knew on the recruitment of Ewa Beach (Hawaii) James Campbell high school four-star athlete Titus Mokiao-Atimalala. The pulse hasn’t changed, which doesn’t bode well for Notre Dame. Distance is an issue, not necessarily something he couldn’t do, but it’s clear that the pandemic didn’t help Notre Dame at all on this front and the schools on the west coast are in a much better position. There is a strong belief in South Bend that if they were able to host the 6-1, 175-pounder at some point, he’d be in this class. That said, confidence is high he ends up in the PAC12. SLIDE4 of 8 The recruitment of West Bloomfield (Mich.) high school four-star running back Donovan Edwards continues to be, for lack of a better word, a mystery. I haven’t spoken to a single source connected to this recruitment, people from a variety of schools, that genuinely feel good about where he’s going to end up. Some think, due to the success this season, Notre Dame has finally become a legitimate contender in this race. Some think he’ll choose Michigan due to it being the earliest path to the field and location. Another believes Georgia will get him on campus for another visit before all is said and done and land him. Oklahoma is also mentioned, but there is much more confidence from those sources that five-star running back Camar Wheaton will end up with the Sooners. Notre Dame will spend the early part of this week trying to get Edwards to commit to a visit this weekend on his own, a trip that will allow him to get around a few recruits and commits. The Irish would love to find out legitimately if he wants in the class somewhat soon, but surely he’ll have a spot as long as he continues to show enough interest. SLIDE5 of 8 Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola four-star cornerback Ceyair Wright is still expected to be on campus this weekend when Notre Dame takes on Syracuse. It’s a dead period, so he’s limited in what he can do and he won’t be able to meet with the coaching staff. However, Wright is looking forward to getting a feel for campus life, what it’s like on a Notre Dame game day while in a pandemic, and just seeing how he fits in. This will be his second time on campus, as he was at Notre Dame last December for the awards banquet. Notre Dame would love to see Wright pick the Irish, so they’ll surely be on FaceTime with him and on the phone with him during the trip to try and impress him and answer any questions he might have. SLIDE6 of 8 Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional three-star running back Audric Estime continues to remain patient with Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have said from the start that Donovan Edwards has been priority No. 1 for a long time and they’ll allow that recruitment to play out before making any final decisions on what to do for the other running back spot. That honest approach has actually put Notre Dame in a good spot with the Michigan State commit. Estime is different than current Notre Dame running back commit Logan Diggs, so the staff would love to pair this duo together. Estime’s combination of power, size, quickness and tough running, plus the fact that he’d be an immediate-impact guy on special teams, has Notre Dame excited about his potential at the next level. SLIDE7 of 8 Notre Dame continues to have dialogue with San Diego (Calif.) Morse four-star running back Byron Cardwell. At this point, Cardwell doesn’t seem in any rush to make a decision and he’s fully set on making a commitment in late January. My guess is that Notre Dame will have a second running back committed by the time Cardwell makes a commitment. Unless he speeds up his process and maybe locks in a visit to South Bend, it’s more likely than not that he just won’t have a spot in the class by the time he’s ready to decide. Cardwell is a terrific talent and will be a very good get for whatever school lands him. We’ll see what happens and if there is any movement in the near future from the nation’s No. 8 running back this class. SLIDE8 of 8 93COMMENTS As we reported a few weeks ago, Notre Dame is still in touch with Bellevue (Neb.) West high school four-starreceiver Keagan Johnson. The talented pass-catcher, who recently received a bump in the rankings from 247Sports, is committed to Iowa and has been locked in with that pledge since May. Johnson is an early enrollee, so it's getting down to crunch time in his recruitment. I do feel strongly that if the Irish were to make a move and offer him this week or next, Notre Dame would have a legitimate shot of flipping his commitment. I think ND would be really tough to beat based on everything I'm told. As it stands, they are just talking to him, staying in touch, and trying to see if they can make this work.
yeah, hope we can pull out 1 or 2 rabbits out of our ass, otherwise the defensive class is talented but raw. 7 of our 8 lowest ranked recruits are defensive, and whilst i like em all (well not nuts about schweitzer) but they are for the long term. Better hope some of the young DBs are ready to step up for a few years
id say we could use impact kids at DB and RB. I also think that Premium WRs are becoming more and more important in CFB, but i LOVE our recruiting classes of late at that position
If ND ends up taking 5 dbs this cycle with the 3 from last cycle plus 2 more years of Bracy, Griffith, Brown- that's a lot of bodies at DB
griffith and bracy only have 1 more year afaik There are a ton of bodies but im really only VERY confident in Clarence Lewis at corner at this point. I guess next year the corner rotation will be Lewis and Bracy starting with Cam Hart and KJ Wallace backing up, but id absolutely love 1 frosh who could press for time
ND has an outrageous amount of dudes who have redshirted https://www.ndinsider.com/recruiting/scholarships/ 35 players who are technically freshman or redshirt freshman is nuts- this team is going to process the hell out of guys in a year it looks like
Hopefully this doesn't come off too dickish (though we all know it will) but the seemingly hourly move between trusting the staff with development and complaining about recruiting is kinda laughable. The best freshman defensive player was rated #58 at his position last year, and he's now starting with zero coaching before the year started. I'm gonna trust that somebody steps up
I counted 10 of those 35 as having either flashed in a large way this season or have played a significant role. Pretty damn solid base of talent.
