I dont really trust much about Driskell anymore anyways. For the sure fact he has an obvious axe to grind. He maybe right but honestly he's lost credibility to me
We really can’t catch a break for nfl entrants. Who was the last borderline guy to come back? Book counts I guess
I don't see how it's insulting. He was like our Aaron Hernandez without the CTE and gay stuff. That would be good for NFL teams to watch another season off. But imo he needed the ball more in general. But whatever. It's not a position we struggle with.
Clemson just got Skalski to come back next year. Not to mention Etienne last year. the whole program just seems to have gone stale.
come off the edge, ND goes through 2-3 year cycles. The next cycle is about to begin, this is the interesting time
Skalski is not an nfl player, it’s like saying Nd was able to bring drew white back for his senior year. now Étienne was a weird one and a terrible decision on his part. He lost a few millions with that one.
And the bama graphic is also very stupid, they lose 5-10 undergrads to the draft every year. When you have good players and good coaches they tend to move to another level. It’s that simple. We are just not used to it.
They go about 50% every year in terms of getting guys to stay, whereas Georgia loses about 100% of guys who become Draft eligible. It’s one of the major reasons one team is Bama and the other continues to be Georgia.
Are you suggesting ETN lost millions because he didn’t play a year in the NFL. I think he is a much better back this year and maybe top 3 RB. Not sure he would have been that in last years class.
Crazy one month ago ND was the cats pajamas flipping dudes from other schools and a huge success. Fast forward after 2 games and it feels like we're coming off a awful season.
yes, and he won’t be drafted higher than he would’ve been last year. you think he really made himself some money by coming back? He is end of the first or second round. Just like last year
It wouldn’t shock me if he hit a few teams Do Not Draft list after this season. He showed up to camp 25 lbs overweight and complained constantly about playing in cold weather. Skills wise, he became an awesome pass catcher which is going to boost his stock. But as someone who is already against using 1st round picks on RBs, I’m not sure I’d want to invest in him long term.
i think the big thing here is the players trusting that the coaches are going to develop them further when they are not completely ready. I get your point. Devonta smith is kind of the bama version of McKinley. He could’ve transferred but he stuck with his team and coaches. but i hâte to try to make sense of these things. Some guys are just done with school and want to move on
I do think he will be drafted higher in this class than last. He’s RB1 on some boards. “Etienne is 45th on CBS Sports' 2020 NFL Draft Prospect Ranking and third among running backs”
Some guys are just done with Brian Kelly and want to move on. Saban pitches these kids on the exponential money available from going from 2nd or 3rd round to 1st round by staying. And then it works (see - Najee Harris).
even if he is drafted 10 spots higher, is it really worth a year of salary? I probably got into a conversation that i am not equipped to carry on with some great knowledge. I don’t follow the nfl that much
I kind of feel like he was so underutilized it was pretty clear cut to come back but I don’t really remeber
Jok and eichenberg could’ve gone last year but it was pretty apparent that they were going to get better
I’m on over my head too. Lol. I was looking up the LBs from the earlier conversation and it could be significant. LSU RB went 32 overall and got >$10M 2019 NFL Draft Analysis – Average Guaranteed Dollars by Round 1st Round – $16,939,370 2nd Round – $3,786853 3rd Round – $946,211 4th Round – $692,925 5th Round – $301,369 6th Round – $161,745 7th Round – $88,795
Tremble probably realizes how good Mayer is and he doesn't want to stick around another year to be the other guy. This year he had Dungy and ESPN guys gushing over him and his blocking, next year they are going to be all over Mayer
To be fair, how many programs are feeling amazing right now other than the two playing on Monday? Off the top of my head: -Clemson: embarrassed on the field, Dabo got taken down a peg -USC: got Foreman, but a ton of kids went pro and stuck with Helton -Texas: entering a rebuild with Sark -Florida: ton of talent just left the program and blasted in a Bowl game -Georgia: needed a last second FG to squeak by a non P-5 team -Miami: isn't King out next year? Yeah the balloon in our program deflated super quickly, but kids going pro early and coordinators leaving comes with the territory in January/February of good programs...
That year they had Boykin, Kmet, Dexter, Mack and Finke. There were only so many balls to go around and 3 guys catching 50 balls and a back at running for 1k is pretty decent.
On Arnett. This is anecdotal. I moved from San Diego to DFW Texas area but in San Diego about 3 years ago 3 coaches and myself went down to SDSU to pick the brain of Arnett and SDSU defensive coaches about their blitz and fire zone package. We went and Arnett was cordial and set up everything for us but the thing that struck me most was he was very humble and was just as curious as what we did on defense as we were about them. He asked a lot of questions how we teach stuff and how why we do things. He mentioned numerous times he is trying to learn just like we we're. I came away thinking he may not have all the answers right now but he's always going to be looking for them and that's what I feel like it takes to be a great coach in this game because its constantly changing styles.
Oooof freeman likely to go to lsu and try to take mockers and Joseph with him (the latter being just some ideas raised by the mods)
Here’s the thing, ND knew he was going to take Elko AM money that’s why this seems obvious that it was always just a ploy to promote Elston
We talk about lack of recruiting success at certain position groups putting a ceiling on our team. Settling on Tommy Rees and Mike Elston as coordinators is going to be Kelly’s coup de grace.
It is unfortunately the only way Nd moves forward. They see every bit of success as evidence that nothing needs to change - need another 2016 next year IMO to get the next batch of positive changes
I am a bit confused about why everyone is knocking the Rees hire. I saw a ton of things I liked from the offense this year. Rees obviously played to the team's strengths (oline, TEs, RB) and was clearly handicapped at WR so it limited what he could do. He had a good QB this year but that good QB was skittish and afraid to throw downfield, even when downfield plays were called (this was true in the Clemson and Bama games). Obviously the last 2 games were bad for the offense, but that's what happens when you play against superior talent and have a scared QB. The run game this year was awesome and I think he got the best he could out of the pass game. Just for the record, Moorhead didn't look all that great this year at Oregon either and that's the guy everyone was clamoring for. They got completely shutdown by Iowa St in the bowl game who ND destroyed last year. I don't care who the coordinators are as long as they get the most of what they have. In 2019, everyone was furious Chip Long was let go, but why? The offense clearly wasn't maximized (a lot of that is Chip's fault). Rees's offense this year was much better with less talent (No Claypool or Kmet). The Oline was the same just 1 year more experienced. Could a more in sync Chip and Jeff Quinn make that good 2019 oline awesome instead? I think so, but Chip wanted what he wanted and didn't care about anyone else's opinion. Everyone panned Quinn's hire as well and look who's eating crow? This was the best oline in the country till injuries hit and his recruiting is as good or better than Hiestand's. I just don't know what all the handwringing is about with these hires. BK is going to get the best guy that he can because he knows his team and coaches the best. If Elston is the best he can get, then so be it and let's see how it works out. Elston in 2020 is a much different coach than he was in 2016 and 2018.
I had no problem with firing Chip Long, the gameplan for Michigan in the rain meant someone on offense had to go. The sham search afterwards to just promote Tommy Rees was an issue to me If we get another sham search that ends in Elston, its just disappointing
The sham search was annoying and just because someone isn’t a ban gorder level disaster doesn’t mean there weren’t other options out there that would have been better
i'm confused here too - where is the sham? It's clear they want Freeman and he's been interviewed and offered. They've also talked to Brad White as well (Kentucky DC). If BK would prefer Elston over everyone not named Freeman, then what is the problem? Watching ND these past 3 years, the defense has not been the problem.
Rees is going to be good! I'm not too worried about him. I think he played to his teams strengths. Play behind your OL and defense. I think that wasn't a Tommy Rees plan but a ND plan as much. As for defense, the only thing that bothers me is if Freeman goes to LSU because they offered more money. The state of Louisiana is in financial ruin..thats a state school they can't match money. No way
