I think we could take 2 but just slowly moving through evaluation. This kid had a higher upside than Angeli
Smart. Powlus JR isn't a D1 guy and between Clarks injury history and Pyne not staying if its actually Buchner after next year, Its smart to take two.
I might be jumping to a conclusion here, but this tells me that the Tokyo Olympics are probably not going to happen.
I wish NBC had decided to cut back it's exposure to cable sports before taking on and later completely gutting the Golf Channel
NBC Sports in general has been making a ton of changes lately. Even the Golf Channel has seen some major shifts in personnel, programming, and even location.
Interesting thread. Couple notes. Rushing #s with Book skews averages. Called pass plays where he scrambles are thus stated as runs. So it may have been a play that a deep ball was called and had a guy open but Book couldn't see and ran. Therefore its labeled as a -1 run. Analytics are fun. I just did one on our team we coach in HS. We ran 2 different front primarily this year. One a 4 man front and one a 3 man front (very close in #s) We had 2 D1 weak side DE type guys. 3 man we had better stats, but we also played it a lot more vs not as good teams or in situations to work on it when we were up. But used 4 man in bigger games and vs better teams so the stats may tell a story but they don't always tell the whole story.
Loy has an article out with the top 75 ILB USC commit and he grew up a Nd fan and loves manti yet we just offered smh
I’m glad Freeman really seems to be hitting the trail hard, but I’m kinda surprised he didn’t look at our recruiting big board, see the guys we’re after and not after, and call lsu back
That’s top notch writing there Driskell. :) Yeah, he must really be baffled by the recruiting effort this staff is putting together.
On one hand this stuff is great, on the other hand it makes me wonder just how lazy the staff has been prior to now. We had a top 75 OVERALL LB just waiting for us to offer committed to our top rival? How many other kids like this have we let go in years passed?
I mean, they didn't play football in California this year and he is a 2022 kid. I don't think it is unreasonable for now to be the approximate time for offers to go out for a linebacker that may or may not end up growing into a d lineman. And then you are left with a 6'1" d end if he doesn't get taller? For better or worse how Elko/Lea recruited length, I get why this may have been a player they held off on.
I think they had a fit/style and recruited pretty tight to it. When Freeman was hired I looked at Cincinnati offers. They have all types and tons of offers
And even the non-JOKs have performed well since he came to ND, with some nice surprises, so we can't fault him too much. But come on. Let's load this team up! Now is the best chance we've seen in a long time.
I don’t blame Lea for not offering this one. His soph film isn’t impressive and he doesn’t have any junior film because of the virus.
Also, instinctual linebacker, but definitely not quick footed based on that film. Not that impressed athleticism-wise but he was also 15 during that film
Same thing I thought watching his film. Didn’t see ILB and thought DE. Far too many vowels in his name not to take however. Gotta think Balis could turn that into something.
In an important year as a head coach, it doesn’t seem like a great idea to hire someone as an OL coach who has never coached OL before
Isn’t there some weird thing where ND football and basketball have never been good at the same time? Think we all know which one we prefer sorry I’m not sorry Mike
