Sounds like we cancelled the zoom with Allar because Angeli was committed. What a fucking clown show.
ND FANS: BK DOESNT GET INVOLVED WITH THE CROOTS ENUFF! (BK gets involved and turns away a 4 star qb) ND FANS: BK NEEDS TO NOT GIT INVOLVED CROOTING.
Actually watched his tape and my main two takeaways were that is his offensive line is terrible and that he actually looks pretty good, I will talk myself into liking him and then be shocked when he is not great a few years from now
“with an offensive line like ND has Brian Kelly is smart to recruit game managers at QB” Sampson probably
If only we could bridge Weis' single elite area of recruiting/coaching with everything else that Kelly has done right.
I'm sure BK and Tommy could have still managed to mess up the offense even with Jimmy/Tate/Floyd/Rudolph
my thoughts on Angeli - i don't love the pickup right off the bat because it looks like he has accuracy issues w/o the benefit of being uber athletic (like Wimsatt) but it's clear Rees loves Angeli for whatever reason and he has access to a lot more data (film/throwing sessions/coaching feedback) that we just don't have. It's clear Angeli has serious size (6'3 and 215lbs when Loy saw him in person and apparently Angeli said he's up to 6'4 now) and a quality arm. He lacks game reps being a 1 year starter in a shortened season on a primarily running team but maybe an entire offseason throwing and a full season playing help him grow and develop. We'll see if Rees was right about him in 3 or 4 years after Buchner leaves.
re-reading this statement - can you imagine those guys combined with the 2020 oline and Kyren/Tyree combo? my goodness - that would be better than Bama's offense this year
its not, we've had a run of shitty recruiting qb coaches, OC's, and a head coach who doesnt recruit QB recruiting is directly tied to the HC
Correct Mike Frank said the reason they waited to offer Simpson so long is because the staff heard he was a silent to Tennessee. Ridiculous to wait to offer someone for that reason, especially a kid as good as Simpson
a guy with one year of high school football under his belt and playing against very weak competition...what could go wrong? Get ready for drew Pyne guys
And it’s not that I don’t like Buchner but kelly can’t develop these guys at all. The high ceiling guys with creativity never pan out at Nd, it’s guys like rees and book that kelly can work with.
I keep trying to find Angelli film and I don't find any. I think his limited record is an issue, but his first offer was Ohio St, so I have to think there is something there. I'm not gonna judge until I see something to base my decision. They liked him enough to be their first offer, so we'll see.
I understand what you are saying but these examples are examples of mediocrity. Nd should not settle for an average qb as a recruit. maybe they really like him more than the other guys like Beeds07 said. And I am not sure that the staff liking him more than the others make me feel better.
It doesn't even feel like Kelly is recruiting elite QBs and missing. I just took a spin through the offer lists during the BK era and unless I am majorly mis-remembering things from the first half of the BK era I think Deshone Kizer has had the best career of any QB to have seriously considered ND.
yea there isn’t a qb o remember ND recruiting that went elsewhere and did well the QB at Wisconsin Mertz still has time think ND recruited that one guy at Washington that was ok
Serious question from a lurker. I’m not a big Book fan because I’m still partial to the Bill Walsh 3 and 5 step drop and throw it to a spot, but who in 2020 would have been a better QB than Book for Nd? Clemson, Fields and Bama don’t count. The dude from NC? Texas? Florida? We might not like it, but could he be top 10 in all of 2020 FBS?
King was the other name I had, so many guys would excel because they are rarely bothered by the rush.
Yep. Mertz, Eason, and Kyle Allen were in the discussion. But I wasn’t sure if we were all that close to signing Eason and Allen or if that was just wishful thinking that I remember.
Kiel, Golson, Wimbush to name a few more. He's had clay to work with. These guys were all extreme highly touted. Just hasn't maxed out the ones with supposedly highest ceilings. That falls on BK.
exactly what I meant, he never seems to be able to maximize these high talent guys because he wants the offense to look a certain way. I am scared to think what bk would’ve done with a guy like lamar Jackson. And not in a good way
I honestly don’t think so, maybe these qbs just sucked? Golson transferred to a qb guru and looked like doodoo Wimbush was like 4th string at UCF
that’s a good counter point, maybe the Driskell shit got into my head It’s not easy to find a good qb but I just wish nd hit once in a blue moon
the real counter point and wait for it is maybe Kelly knows what the fuck he is doing at qb, and managed to get the most out of these kids with the talents they were dealt
I realize that’s not my story with kelly and qbs but maybe he hasn’t done that bad ND went 12-0 with Golson/Rees like wtf
i was right there with you for a while, even Malik looked good playing qb at Nd and he sucked after that. every single qb that transfered out of Nd went on and played worse. But still the qb play at Nd is not good enough. I think we can agree on this?
